I was just wondering if a USB keyboard like the razer tarantula would work on a laptop. If not, can someone recommend me a good keyboard for laptops?

Yes it should work

why do you think that they wouldnt work on a laptop???

Pretty much every type of keyboards will work on a notebook, even PS/2 keyboards if you have the correct converters to USB or w/e.

In my experience, USB keyboards lack the Fn key and you threfore won't be able to use any functionality which depends on pressing the Fn key (which are notebook-specific features). Otherwise they should work fine.

I figured it would, I just wanted to make sure 100% before buying one online, since online refunds are really inconvenient.

You think you could use one of those key remaping softwares to fix this?
I have used 2 of them in the past, one that let you use a gamepad and map any keyboard function to a button, and the other that did the opposite let you map any keypress, function, macro ect to a keypress on the keyboard. It was very smart software that I forget the name of because I have not used it in forever.
However I bet there is a good chance with the software you could map one of the usb keyboards keys to the FN key.
Also may as well note my saitek gamers keyboard has software that does this also, which is what led me to find the above software but it works with the keyboards programmable keypad that attaches to it. It will probably work also.
Just some food for thought. -

You might be able to do the remapping but it is not an easy task since the Fn key is hard-wired and doesn't create a conventional keyboard scan code (hence it is impossible to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys on a notebook by using remapping software).
