Practically all of my laptops have been screen'd with 24-inchers at most to date so I haven't really run into this issue. I'd like to run a displayport'd machine with a 30-inch monitor, I don't have any 3008's free at the moment although I own a couple, and I'm going to have to use either the Apple Cinema Displays or the 3007's.
I've been looking at these active converters you need to run dual-link from DP and I've been wondering what, if any, effects they have on the image. If whatever in there needs 5V@?ma, I'm assuming there's some sort of processing going on.
If there's a processing tradeoff, I'm probably going to can the idea and run 24's - and if possible, I'd like to get it from the horses mouth of someone who's tried it and not waste £100 finding out. Any answers? Thanks.

It's all digital, so I can't see why it would affect anything. But... buy the adapter somewhere where you can return it if you're not happy with it.
Oh yeah, I'm not sure if DVI supports HDCP, so I don't know if there might be issues with DRM/copy-protected HD video. -
I'm surprised I didn't get an answer for this - I'd have hoped there were more users running 30-inchers in this way.
Anyway - never mind, I've done some monitor/display adapter juggling and lugged one of the 3008's home in readiness for the machine.
Do the active DP -> DVI converters have an effect on latency / image quality?
