    If so, which brand?
Is it a combination or key?
If you own a key lock, is it a round or flat key?
    Finally, do you recommend it?

    Kensington Microsaver lock

Uses a rounded key. I suppose its OK. Decent length, thick cable; no one is about to cut it with normal household items. Will certainly stop the opportunist thief, as intended. It says if you tamper with the lock, it will go into "lockdown" (my words, so to speak), and you need to call up with the serial and your registration details (website) to learn how to unlock it

Excuse my lack of enthusiasm, but my halls has a main door that needs a card. The corridor door needs a card. And finally my room door needs a card. So reasonably safe. I don't even bother using it now

    Laptop lock??

What a joke of a security device.

Like I said before in another thread: I'm a bike loser who spent $2600 on a Trek racing bike. I locked it up with the best bike lock out there. Came back and found my lock cut with a powerful power saw.

    A laptop lock?

I could chop that in half with my CRKT.

    A laptop = portable.

If you're at the library and have to go pee-pee simply pack your lappy in the case =)

Bike locks are a little different because you cannot constantly watch it. If you keep a constant eye on your laptop and only turn away for a second it can be stolen quite easily. The lock only prevents someone from just grabbing it and running. Other than that it does very little.

I got a baseball bat... makes for a pretty good security device, and you can use it for more than just your laptop. :D I also use it to play baseball with.. ;)

I have this lock. I think it is really durable. It is a 4 number combination lock.

I have a kensington microsaver combo lock which i used when my laptop was my primary machine and was on my desk. Now my desktop is my primary machine so if someone breaks into my room, they aren't gonna know i have a laptop (usually in it's bag, under my bed). I would still use it if my laptop was visible when I'm not present
