Just a simple question if you use a Mouse Pad or not.
If so, which one? And why?
If not, why not?

I don't use one at the moment, my table top seems to be fine as it is, I don't really have any need for a special mouse pad at the moment, although a Razer Vespula would be nice. I think the speed and control sides of it would be useful for me, but I'm not sure how well my MX Revolution would track on it, since it's fairly picky when it comes to surfaces.
-
I always use a mousepad, because I don't want to destroy my mouse (btw Shadow, my MX Revolution tracks on anything but glass). My SteelSeries QcK and MX Revolution are never used separately

I use a mousepad.
In the past I haven't used one because my optical mice work fine without one, too.
But a mousepad is better for the mouse and does not wear down or scratch the pads as fast as a dirty firm table, less noisy, better for the table, it does not wear down the table surface, important if you use a more expensive table, it's more comfortable for your wrist, less cold and softer and it has a better feedback.
I started using one to solve all those mentioned points. -
When I am working at my desk I usually will.
Just depends on where I am sitting.

I'm never at a desk, so I don't use one.

Razer eXactMat.
I use it because I find it works better than any table surface and it has wrist support with the pad. -

I use a Razer eXactMat with my desktop, and carry a Razer Vespula around with my laptop.
-
I use the one I received with my laptop, it's sexy, and the feeling is much, much better!
How could I live without a mouse pad? -
Actually mouse pads are obsolete. I haven't needed to use one in years. Now I have the Logitach MX performance mouse, they are even more useless.
On the other hand, they still make pretty Mickey mouse pads!
-
I use them as drum pads...
-
They're not obsolete. They may not be absolutely necessary for tracking, but they definitely improve the glide and response, especially if you have a high-performance mouse, and they also help keep your mouse feet from wearing down.
You should invest in a digital kit. I know they can be expensive, but it's an investment every drummer who lives with other people should make. I have a really nice Tama + Zildjian drum kit, but I can never use it when people are around, so I got an entry-level Roland digital kit. The realistic stick bounce on the pads is unmatched, and if you use headphones, nobody in the next room will be able to hear you.

I use a steel series its bigger than a 21inch monitor!
-
I do use a mouse pad. can't think of gaming without it at all.
-
I don't use a mousepad.
-
I always use one, I hate sliding the mouse across a hard surface, just doesn't feel right.
-
i have a regular logitech (mx400 i think) mouse that i use with my razer exactmat + pad. it reallly brings the mouse to life. a proper mouse pad really helps u fine tune yur mouse feel. this is very essential to any avid gamer or a person that uses higher resolution screens. pairing yur mouse with a proper pad will make a world of a difference. anyone that hasn't tried it really needs to. the exactmat alone, really helped take my gaming level to the next tier.
for gamers, bringin yur own mouse pad with u gives u an added advantage. if not an advantage, at least the mouse pad will give u a constant variable when u are ready to play. u don't have to find a "suitable" surface to play on.
^^^ i'm with stupid.
-
I haven't really seen the need for a mousepad since switching to an optical/laser mouse.
-
is the vespula bulky with its wrist pad? Why would you get that over their actual portable pad?
-
Gaming notwithstanding, I've experimented with/without the pads and find no appreciably difference in tracking capability. Not that there's anything wrong with using a pad, it's just that for my purposes, it's doesn't really make any performance difference.
Maybe you people have just grown attached to your mouse pads, like security blanket?
-
HAHAHAHA, that's a pretty good analogy. I like the raised elevation for the mouse. As such I have a pad regardless of sensor-type. -
Hmm, that sounds alright then, I have heard in the past though that the MX Revolution was very picky when it came to surfaces.
-
Ive had the optical mouse "skip" on some glossy surfaces. I've been using a mouse rug for a while. Got 1 for home and 1 for travel. Kind of pricey but works well.
-K -
It's still pretty thin, and the pad is significantly thinner than the eXactMat's was...not that that one was very thick either. They're Vespula itself and its wrist pad are two separate parts, so when I'm on the go I usually just leave the wrist pad behind.
If you're talking about the Kabuto, I didn't get it because I prefer a hard mat, because I do a lot of mousing on my couch and bed, where a soft mat (especially a thin one like the Kabuto) would just take the shape of whatever it's on. The Vespula is firm and stays flat no matter what it's on, so I have a solid mouse surface wherever. It fits nicely in my backpack too, right next to my notebook. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Eh, nah. I use my pantleg sometimes or whatever is near that is flat and my BlueTrack mouse will track on... mostly just a lab table surface though. Otherwise it's the trackpad.
-
Nope! Dont underestimate the glory of the MX Rev 8D
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
pantleg ftw
i find most fabrics (couches and pillows) to be no worse than any mousepad.
also - if you use your mouse on the same surface all the time, it will all get dirtier faster.
as far as gaming, i want to pass something on from my brother a jazz bass player - you will never ever be completely comfortable doing what you do best. he was talking about who hes playing with and the position and eye contact, stuff like that.
but with gaming, its almost a no brainer. i mean, why should you feel comfortable when youre in danger of being fragged, invaded or paralyzed etc?
yea.
so, ill never get a decent desk, mouse and definitely not a mousepad.
-
Yes I was talking about the kabuto. Good to know the vespula is firm. I'm tempted to pick one up because for one my gaming is really sloppy with the orochi at 1ms and 4000dpi yet anything less I don't feel the computer matches my reflexes and two when I get into graphic stuff I suspect the control on the pad is far better than on the $8 black mouse pad I pulled from my stockpile today.
-
mousepad at home..and when the surface is not smooth..
i took care of the mouse feet , sometimes using smooth mousepads can increase the age of the mouse feet...due to less friction , means less wear -
I always use one
-
i am using razer copperhead on my destructor hard mat.
-
I use Razer Destructor Pad + Logitech Marathon Wireless Mouse
hehee -
Pad with wristsupport when gaming/slouching on the bed, other than that.. not so much.
-
When I'm working at my desk I will.
I just use a $3 Mouse Pad from the $2 Dollar Shop. Has a wrist rest thing. -
that is a horrible analogy and mind state. why would u sell yourself short like that?
anyone that is good at whatever they do will be comfortable in any situation. u have to feel comfortable so u can be aware and react to anything that is thrown at u. u will never be at the top of yur game until u train yurself to feel comfortable under pressure.
- for web surfing and light use: a mouse pad is subjective cuz u aren't required to actually make any precise mouse movements.
- for heavy/work/gaming use: a mouse pad is definitely needed to optimize yur mouse control and productivity. -
No, why should I??
My desk isn't glass its wood - so why bother with one...
Just clutters your desk for no gain at all.
(Yes, I'm not a gamer
)
-
I use one made by cyber snipa that lights up with blue LEDs and I love it. I've tried my cousins exactmat and didnt like it nearly as much as mine. Probably because I wasnt used to his though.
-
Did you try both sides?
-
I use a dartboard (not recommended).
-
QcK Series , big one
-
Nope.
Usually i use the touchpad anyway, but if i do use a mouse im usually at a table, so ill just use the table
If im playing a FPS or something and im on the couch ill still just use the couch lol. the mousepads get in the way putting them on the palmrest... blocking the keys. and i really just dont think its nessesary anyway.
I used to use one though, lol... some $5 WalMart one
-
I've always used one. lol, I've had the same standard blue mouse pad for about 9 years now! I keep saying I'm going to change it, but then never get around to it! It fits perfectly into one of my laptop bags compartments, and has always worked well. But looking at it now, it is definetly starting to show its age!
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
its a completely reasonable analogy. unless you think there is no skill involved in computer games.
and, its also a completely reasonable mindset for the same reason you are saying it isnt:
using that logic, if you dont feel comfortable gaming without a mousepad, then you obviously arent any good at gaming.
thats almost a summary of what i was saying in the first place.
point proven, no one needs a mousepad.
the physical worlds only purpose is for us to rise above it -
all of that is not even close to what i was tryin to say. u need to read in between the lines.
-
i'm using a giant directed electronics placemat(plastic top) that they sent our shop to put on the counter as a display for customers. its the only thing i could get other than the cloth topped mats that was big enough. i can't stand the tiny little mouse pads and the only ones local (prefer to see the surface so i didn't want to order blind) are the cloth topped rubber ones.
i tend to drag my pinky finger along the surface and the cloth tops get random things(ie. pet hair ) embedded in them and drive me insane. i'm using a MS sidewinder with it as i preferred the top/bottom thumb buttons over the front/back arrangement.
Do you use a Mouse Pad?
