On my macbook, the trackpad stay on when u plug in mouse. I do use it sometimes when I am still using mouse, because its the new trackpad that you can use 4 fingers to show desktop or show all windows. You can also use 2 fingers to scroll up and down on the screen and other things. 3 fingers to scroll photos. Zoom in and out with squeezing two fingers together and so on. Very useful tool

Be sure to check the options in the software and have the option enabled to where the touchpad is disabled when you plug in a USB mouse.
I find one mouse input more than enough to control the single cursor on my screen. Has nothing to do with power savings. At least that wasn't my original intention.
Another reason why I like to have the touchpad disabled when I plug in a USB mouse. Don't know many people who game using the touchpad.
My apologies. I put a 32-bit link up in the OP. Try that out and let me know if it works

Asus automatically disables it when you plug in a mouse and has a touch-sensitive button above the keyboard to enable/disable it.
-
Is that a hint for me to add it to the OP?
-
I had the option checked to disable the trackpad when a USB mouse is plugged in, and it didn't work on the 7801. I then tried the latest Synaptic driver and it didn't have an option to disable the pad if when a mouse was plugged in :-(

This is really wierd and annoying!
I have a Vostro 1320 and I want the touchpad to disable when i plug in my USB mouse.
The thing is I got this to work a couple of days ago, a red cross appeared on the systray icon after I installed Dell's driver.
Now it won't work and i don't know what i did.
I've tried everything, uninstalled the dell driver, the mouse-driver.
Tried several version of the synaptics but is still doesn't disable the touchpad.
Another wierd thing is that the "synaptics dell icon" doesn't always appear and it's not listed in the device manager, and sometimes there's a conflict on "Dell Touchpad".
What's up with this?
I really wan't this to work as I always seem to touch the pad while i'm writing.
All help is appreciated.
EDIT: and once again I got the problem solved just after i posted here, although i spent several hours today without success, well! -
I think this is most likely the biggest complaint in all of computer history. Perhaps some enterprising software manufacturer will come up with a solution...Google maybe? After all, they're already kings when it comes to keeping records of our every activity. I'm surprised they missed this one.
-
I personally don't like this feature, I've tried it it's appeared not so useful for me
-
Apparently my problem isn't completely solved. My touchpad doesn't work after a reboot, i get an error on "Dell Touchpad" and it says, "The device won't start, code 10"
I've reinstalled the drivers several times and it works until i reboot again.
Any ideas? -
Like I stated previously, you have to use the Synaptic drivers that I posted in the OP for this to work.
So, what was the point of this post? If you have nothing nice to say or nothing useful, then why post in this thread?
Perhaps the touch pad hardware is bad. I'm not quite sure. I've never encountered this problem. -
Can someone tell me if LG Notebooks have an option to disable the touchpad?
-
From my experience, all notebooks have the option to disable the touchpad. The point of this thread was to give users the option to have the touchpad disabled when you plug in a mouse.
Do you want to disable the touchpad when you plug in a USB mouse?
