I'm not really up to date on the classifications of all the cables.
I have an HP Docking Station from my old HP laptop. I really liked it a lot and it made life a lot easier.
I'd like to use it with my Lenovo Y530.
The issue is that my Lenovo does not have a printer port, nd that is how my docking station connects to my computer.
So, I figured the crafty way around getting a new docking station would be to use a USB converter. The issue is that I can't find one (it seems like most everyone carries the printer side, but not the computer side of the cable).
Any ideas?
Here's a picture of the cables. If I can connect to either one of these it will work (the second one is able to connect to the first one)

Its somewhat likely that your old HP proprietary docking station made use of the unused pins on the parallel interface to transmit signals to/from the station, or multiplexed the traditional parallel printing signals in such a way that the rest of the pins could be used or other things. So using a USB Parallel port adapter, strictly speaking, wouldn't deliver the functionality that you want.
Doesn't the Thinkpad have a proprietary docking station of its own? I know, for my Dell, I was able to buy one (PR01X) for $5 off of eBay. -
You can’t use that HP docking station with an IBM notebook with a simple converter. Most docking stations use proprietary connectors, if yours use the standard parallel port, then it must be using some special driver to route Video, sound, LAN and whatever other signals through the parallel port in to the docking station. Which I’m sure will not work with your Lenovo under Vista. If you want a universal docking station then buy a USB one.
Docking Station ... need a printer to USB cable
