I would like to know if anyone can recommend a solution for my current Dell Inspiron 700m.

Hopefully, I can explain this adequately: The laptop no longer turns on, but I have definitely narrowed it down to the the battery not being charged. It is not the battery that appears to be the problem, but rather the part where I plug the A/C adapter in. (I had once dropped the laptop  , chipping off a piece of the frame around where the adapter plugs in, making the connection somewhat loose...I did not realize at the time that this would cause future problems.) I know this must be the problem, because if I held the adapter plug "just right" against the laptop frame, it would charge, although I guess I bent something out of place, because now it doesn't charge at all.

Anyway, because of the nature of the problem, getting a new laptop battery would not help, because I would have no way of REcharging it. My question is: Would a docking station temporarily solve this problem? Does a docking station charge a laptop without the use of my A/C adapter? Sorry for the dumb question, but I never used a docking station before. If not, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to get by until I get a new laptop?

Thanks so much for the help!!!

jerry66, thank you for your response. It didn't even occur to me that the right docking station might not even exist for the 700m. It looks like that port replicator is not suitable for the 700m, and now that I looked more carefully, there doesn't seem to be anything comparable made for the 700m. Well, there goes that idea. :( Any other suggestions?

There is no docking station for the 700m that supports power as well...sorry. Your best bet is to find a used motherboard off of eBay and do a swap, or look into getting a new system if you have the money (or a new system that would make you happy is cheaper than the 700m motherboard).

Do you have a warranty on the 700m still?

    Thanks for the replies, guys...

Unfortunately, the laptop is now more than three years old, and the warranty has recently expired (figures, right?). I guess I could try to find someone to fix it, but since the laptop is getting old anyway, it might not be worth it to fix. There is also a vertical row of stuck pixels on the LCD, which I've managed to live with for a little while now, but it just seems like if more and more continues to go wrong with it, it would be wiser to get another laptop, for as cheap as they are. The surprising thing I found is that my 700m's specs are actually better than the cheapest brand new laptops, so I don't want to find myself spending $ on a new laptop that's not even as nice as my old one.

Alternately, while looking on ebay for parts for my laptop, I found this repair service:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/DELL-INSPIRON-7...ryZ50422QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone think this would be a good idea? The seller specifies fixing the exact problem(s) I have, but I've been known to do gullible things before, so feel free to tell me it's a stupid idea. My friend says it's dumb to send your laptop to someone you don't know, but if I take out the hard drive beforehand, then I'm not sure what's the worst thing that could happen.
