Last year I sent a Dell inspiron 5100 to my daughter and she now says that the power jack in the lap top is broke and it will not charge. I know that the HP that I use now has a docking station that also charges the battery with out using the DC input on the side. Is something like this available for the Dell insp 5100? Or does anyone have any other ideas as repair looks to be very expensive. thanks

Unless there is a D/Dock port on the bottom of the notebook there is no way.

    I think it's time for a replacement.

It might not be so expensive to fix if you can find someone with a soldering iron who can understand the Dell service manual. Do you know for sure what is broken?

Thanks all. Not sure as I have not seen that pc yet. My daughters mom said that she has been told that the jack needs to be replaced and that the lowest quote sh can find is $150. we live 2000 mi apart so all I have is my EX's word  . How hard is it to find and replace the motherboard on that machine and is that were the jack lives?
