Shouldn't need a screen to be recognizable. Are you sure it's only the screen that is broken?
Try plugging in the iPod, and restarting the computer, with the iPod still plugged in. If it does get recognized then, you should reset the entire iPod using iTunes. -
The screen is just for outputting an image so you can select your music/videos/iPod etc. the screen shouldn't effect your computer from finding your iPod at all, maybe when your screen broke something inside the iPod could have been effected also?

The screen has NOTHING at all to do with syncing. Simple answer. If you dropped it or something and now it wont sync then there is also a simple answer. Your Ipod is broken. Not to be blunt. CLOSE DISCUSSION!!!!
Does a 3rd gen ipod nano need a screen for it to be reconized on pc?
