Hi Guys
I didnt know which subforum to put this in so im putting it here.
I have 3 computers at home, an asus laptop (win7), and linux box, and a mac mini.
I am thinking of buying a couple of monitors so I will have 3 total to connect to each computer.
However, i want to be able to work with only one keyboard. So if I buy ThinkGeek :: USB 7 Port Hub with Power Switches and connect the main usb out to the keyboard, and connect the hub ports to each computer, will i be able to redirect keyboard input at will?

No. The host USB port is different than the Client port. 2 or more computers won't be able to recognize the same hardware plugged into the same port on the same hub.

So whats the best solution?
I was looking into kvm switches, but A. I dont need display
and B. I cant seem to find one that has consistent usb service. All seem to have issues like dropping keyboards after inactivity etc.
And im on a budget -

I'll let someone else help you on that one... I don't use KVM switches enough to comfortably recommend one to you.

Will all the computers and monitors be on the same desk?
Synergy(software that shares keyboards+mouse) may work but I haven't used it.
I use a 2 port USB KVM switch(IOgear brand). Sometimes when I switch to another computer(double tap scroll lock), the mouse is not detected/won't move but that is easily fixed by replugging in the host mouse into the kvm switch. -

This is something I've used some of the time when at home. Simple, cheap, and combined with an actual USB hub you can attach both a mouse and keyboard to control up to four computers.
Does a usb hub work both ways?
