I have been looking around for an external HDD which I can take with me w/o carrying any extra adaptor.
Now the 2 buspowered hdds that caught my attention were:
- LaCie (160GB, 5400rpm)
advantage: FireWire, which I really like since it gives more throughput than regular USB2.0
- WD passport II (160GB, 5400rpm)
advantage: ultra portable
Now I really like the LaCie thx to it having FireWire, but yet the WD seems so portableWhich one do you think is better to have?

Depends on how strong you are and how much you really like Firewire. I own 2 USB HDDs myself and unless the LaCie product is bulky and weighs a ton of bricks then you should go for it since increased throughput is always useful if you install games on the HDD.

Better throughput is only needed for video and music editing otherwise you won't notice any difference. -
Im going to buy 250GB LaCie, similar than that one but with USB2.0. Just because I want 250GB and usb one is 80$ cheaper than Firewire one.
I also dislike WD black glossy finish... I think it will scratch really easy.. and just cant stand that
Both seems to be pretty portable. LaCie is ~200g, WD ~105g. Unless that ~100g makes big difference to you I would go with LaCie. -

I have a LaCie. I don't carry it much. But it is plenty portable enough if I need to.
