Aside from in-ear buds, which Beats headphones does not require battery?

I would advise against buying them. They are very overpriced and not very good.

It appears some of them need batteries. This is a gimmick. There are tons of headphones that sound much better and don't need batteries. I really cannot impress enough upon you just how much of a waste Beats headphones are.

The Beats that use battery use them to run an amp of some sort that helps "reduce background noise"

That aside, Beats really are overpriced for what you are getting. Yes they will sound better than some lower quality over ear headphones but with the money you are spending on them you can get many, MANY, other headphones that are much higher quality (as far as sound goes) but they just dont look as good and dont sport the Monster or Dr Dre logo's. If you really want to get the best bang for your buck check out Head-Fi and ask some of the audiophiles there.

Personally I am looking into buying the Sennheiser HD600's or 650's and you can find them for the same price or maybe like 50 bucks more than the Beats. Look around and dont just buy what everyone else is, because they honestly do sound like 60 dollar headphones haha.
    Cheers,
    -Dino.

Definitely look into sennheiser instead. I tried some Beats out at a store (just because they were there and I was curious, not because I was looking at them). I plugged them into my phone and listened to some uncompressed 1411 kbps WAV songs I had (uploaded from some very high quality CDs with a lot of dynamic range); the 300 something dollar beats sounded passable, but still noticeably more muddled than my HD280s, which are under $90 most places.

Basically you pay a giant premium for the name, just like with BOSE or Apple products.

Haha, it's funny how everyone is like "Oh no, they're terrible don't buy them" when the OP didn't even mention wanting them. The only ones that require batteries are the Studios for the noise cancelling, all the rest do not.

Well, I would imagine that if the OP is inquiring as to why they need batteries, it is because he/she is considering purchasing them.

Good quality Studios are $31 and are available in a greater variety of colors and styles. You could get Ferrari or Lamborghini ones, or maybe your favorite sports team on them. Only $10 for Solos and the earbuds are less than half of that. People just buy it because it is cool so the audio quality doesn't matter, but it is comparable with any other cheaper headphones from the big names. Unless you compare them side by side, I don't think any idiots who would buy Beats would ever be able to tell if you buy a good set. The only downside is that it means taking it out of the packaging to try it out before you buy it because there are several manufacturers and the quality control isn't the best.

I would never buy fake headphones, let alone fakes of such crappy headphones as beats, but I have friends who would rather have fake beats than actually have good headphones. And it really is a testament to how crappy beats are that fakes that are so cheap are not much worse than the real ones that are many times more expensive.

Oops. I still have to get my CTS-V of notebook coolers :D remember that simile you made?

First few sentences shocked me a little hahah. I'm not big into headphones anymore now that I don't have a roommate, I just blast movies/music on my Logitech speakers. But I would love a good pair for myself as well if I find the money to spare when everything goes on sale after Christmas.

lol, of course i remember! :)

honestly, the beats aren't THAT bad. they're actually pretty decent for what they are. the main reason why ppl have so much negative things to say about them is because they do cost so much. i'm pretty sure that if the beats were marketed in the $100-$200 price range then they would be getting much better reviews. to a person in the know, the beat's soundstage and sound quality do not justify it's price tag. but to a general consumer that is just looking for some "nice" headphones, the beats fit the bill perfectly. u have to remember that EVERYONE has a different preference when it comes to soundstage and/or sound quality.

the beats are geared towards ppl that like to listen to their music with alot of bass. to me, the main selling point of the beats is it's nice form factor. it's really a sleek looking design that isn't commonly found in general headphones. just think of those ultra thin samsung LED LCD's. they don't do anything better than the other LED's in it's class, but the the tv's looks are attracting buyers to them. if u already know what u want then don't let anyone else sway your decision. :)

Agree, $100, even $120 for beats isn't bad, I'd consider them... even though the price division is more like $60 style and $30 substance, and $10 for the beats logo :D

The beats studio do have excellent sound quality. They do leak sound heavily which can cause issues.

So much hate on Beats when the question was WHICH of the beats required batteries.

Jeez, and the studios do, which I own and am a proud owner of.
Honestly, Sennheiser headphones just look absolutely appalling.
I mean, there is no "wow" factor with these headphones aside from maybe the sound.
Honestly, Sennheisers are good, but not good looking.

And why would anyone want to walk around in public with appalling-looking headphones? That's like walking around with a horrible shirt in public and than saying its the best shirt out there.

Because people out there care about quality of sound, comfort, etc more than they care about being cast in the next season of Jersey Shore?

The powers that be want you to care about inane things such as what clothes you wear and what celebrity is doing what because then you don't have time (or mental capacity, it seems) to stop, think, and realize that things like fashion have been around for hundreds of years as a way of making you feel like you are important, when, in the very grand scheme of things, you are not.

Think about the Arab spring. Do you think those protesters cared that they had on "horrible shirts in public", or do you think they were too busy doing important things to care about inane things like the newest car, the trendiest styles, and the richest celebrities?

Shallow much? Are looks and fashions really more important than something that's actually much better sounding? You do realize that fashion isn't set in stone, and is typically a cyclical series? For example, bell-bottom jeans were insanely popular in the 70s, then became trash and unpopular in the 80s-90s, but they are once again very fashionable. Soon, they'll be out of fashion again, and the cycle will repeat. Yet, something like Beats will have okay-ish sound, and Sennheiser will have much better sound, and this will not change over time like fashion will.

TL;DR: Buying something for fashion only is a foolish endeavor. That's about the quickest way to loose money outside of Wall Street. Like many rappers from the 90s, Dre will become uncool over time, thus so will Beats headphones. Buy for actual performance, not for lower self-esteem issues.

Rykoshet said it right. Some people care more about sound quality and not being ripped off more than they care about what other people think about what headphones they are using.

Both sides (Garfield and the others arguing against him) have a point. It's just a question of priorities. There's more to a product than how it performs, just as there's more to a product that how it looks. There's how it feels, how easy it is to use, how durable it is and blah blah.

The point is what you value as a consumer when putting your money into something.

Anyway the OP's question has pretty much been answered. Let's not turn this into a "Beats vs other brands" thread.

The best looking shirt in the world is useless if it doesn't keep you warm.

This is why devices with awesome designs have failed (Dell Adamo, Jawbone Up) or will fail (Razer Blade). If the device doesn't do the job it was intended to do, then all you have accomplished is that you bought a very attractive paperweight.
