I have an E1505 and an old HP Deskjet 340 which plugged into a parallel port on my old computer. Since the E1505 doesn't have a parallel port, if I buy one of those cables that has a USB plug on one end and the printer connection on the other end, will the computer be able to recognize the printer w/o me having to install software that came with the printer? The only software the printer came with was a floppy disk I think, so I can't use that.

Here's an example of the cable I'm talking about.

    Thanks.

Yes, you can use a USB cable to connect to it as long as the printer has a matching port to it. Here is the problem: it will recongize that you have a printer attached, but will probably still require the drivers for it. Solution: download the driver from the web

The only concern/problem that i can see is that HP doesn't have an XP driver for this printer. I don't know if the 98 driver would work or not. It might be possible that MS has a general printer driver for it.

I actually had it hooked up to my Gateway M305 notebook before which had WinXP Home and it was recognized and worked w/o me having to install any drivers manually. The Gateway had the parallel port though.
