Hey,
Just wanted to let you guys who had Echo Indigo PCMCIA cards but couldn't use them with the new Expresscard slots know that I've just talked to a Echo representative and he said an expresscard version is coming out in April and their website is going to be updated in March.
I'm definitely picking one up when it's out.

-
Hm...what is that?
-
Apparently some sort of "professional" audio card. Checked the site, one card does stereo and the other does 4 channel. Hmm.. Creative's card does 5.1 :/
-
Yes, it's an audiocard,
It doesn't have 5.1, it's primarily created to be used with headphones.
Creative's card is garbage and doesn't sound any better than modern laptop's built in card, it doesn't have real X-FI chip inside, it uses software to emulate that.
Echo Indigo has a built in headphone amplifier + lots of other things, and IMO the best feature of all it has a volume knob on the card, so managing volume becomes very easy, instead of going to a menu and grabbing a level with a mouse and moving it.
-
Any more news on this? I checked their site and still no mention of an ExpressCard version of the Indigo DJ.
-
Echo has been around for a really long time. And have always put out solid stuff. So if what it offers fits your needs, then it will be a good product.
-
I know echo makes good products. The Indigo DJ is a very good card but I would like to not have to try and use it with an adapter. Hence, why I am asking if there is any updated news on an ExpressCard version of the Indigo DJ.
-
Don't know what they are doing but I hope it's released soon. -
I received a reply from Echo via email and they said it will be 8 more weeks until the ExpressCard versions are finished for production. They mentioned it may be a little longer until they are in stores.

Interesting news this is. I wonder what the price point for the expresscard version of their Indigo line would be. Considering that the current generation tends to run at an average of $150 retail, cheaper if you hunt around.

Meaning while sure it may send sound to 5.1 speakers its only 2.1 being split into more speakers. Even the full fledged desktop X-Fi has its flaws like the optical out not being surround sound its only stereo.
Right now if you have a Realtek HD onboard sound card you may as well stick with it because I have yet to see an external solution any better and they are all overpriced. -
The target audience is more for digital dj's and music enthusiasts. Echo offers stable ASIO compliant drivers that are a must when using with any type of dj or audio production software.
-
I emailed them the other day about this. The guy said it will be released hopefully by August
-
I would not keep my hopes up, I'd be surprised if it came out before 2009. -
-
It's October '08 and Echo says....
(wait for it...)
"Next month".
Hard to believe even ONE high end audio card mfgr hasn't stepped up to the plate by now given that ExpressCard has been the only game in town for notebooks for the last couple years... -

GOOD NEWS!!!! dam da da daaam....

Way to go Echoaudio! I'm definitely getting one. -
Question: I have the current Indigo DJ for PCM/CIA card slot - is it worth buying an expresscard converter to use it with my new Lenovo IdeaPad?
-
Why not sell the old one and buy a EX? A converter will take more space i think....
-
you're right, that's the best thing to do...I was just trying to save a few bucks!
-
I'd love to see an Audigy 2 ZS in expresscard format.
-
All I can say is stick with the Echo, its going to crush any of the creative competition.
-
What i want most is a E-MU 1616M Expresscard.....But still no news......
-
It keeps crushing with XP.
And the sound doesn't seem to be better than the original, frankly, the built in laptop sound is pretty much the same. -
Your saying that the built in sound card is as nice as the Echo? Wow, you must have a nice built in sound card. That or you don't have the right equipment, files, or ears to tell the difference.
-
I could never imagine listening to the laptop or the old indigo at their full sound with this card though you have to have the sound on the limit. -
-
I mean the difference between 128kbps mp3 and a flac file. If you have good equipment then you can tell. Although it gets alot harder to tell the difference between a properly encoded 320kbps mp3 and a lossless codec(flac).
Echo Indigo Expresscard - coming.
