    Hey guys,

I tried yesterday to install my Epson perfection 2400 Foto scanner on my brandnew notebook with Windows XP and got an error message basically saying that the system is going to be messed up if I continue.

When I went to the Epson page, they obviously know the problem and say to install it anyway.

Anybody tried that? Is it OK to install the driver anyway?
Last thing I want to do right now is reconfiguring the whole thing just because I installed a faulty driver...

    Thanks so much!

i would take the printer back. if they know about the issue and don't care to fix it, you never know if there are other bugs that they won't be willing to fix later.

i have an epson r200 and that also shows on my installation but works perfectly... i just dont know why epson printers are not plug-and-play as it used to be... you have to run their installation cds before accessing their printer...

i don't think a faulty driver would hurt your system... you can always remove your drivers on your device manager

    just my 2 cents

It appears when I plug in the scanner. Of course last night when I tried to do a screenshot with the error message it wouldn't come up...
    I'll try again tonight.

Is this the message saying something along the lines of the driver not being certified to work properly with Windows XP, Microsoft won't be held accountable if you screw up your system? It happens with most drivers, don't worry. Device manufacturers just don't want to pay for whql certs. We have a dozen $15k to $50k printers and scanners that I administer at work, at least half of them aren't certified. It makes you wonder how much MS is charging for this 'service'

You can disable the message altogether, I just don't remember how off hand and I'm not around a Windows machine.

Sorry it took so long, but I attached a scrennshot.

    Ethyriel, the message says:

"The software ... has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with WindowsXP.
Continuing your installation ... may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."

Is that what you are talking about? So I can happily install without 'destabilizing my operating system' in the 'near future'? :)

Yeah, that prompt is no big deal.
Like Ethyriel said, many manufactureres don't get all their hardware WHQL certified but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Even if it doesn't function properly, it won't bork your system. Install that puppy!

    Yeah, that's the one.

Well, it might bork your system, some drivers are really bad. But typically if you do install a bad driver all you have to do is remove it and everything is back to normal. I won't throw out meaningless statistics pulled out of my a**, but you have almost nothing to worry about.
