    Hi guys,

I'm looking for a laptop stand that can raise the height of my laptop so that it's more comfortable to use--top of screen at eye level. I've searched for a lot of these laptop stands, but a lot of them seem really fragile and poorly designed--like if my laptop can't open too wide then the stand would be useless. Can anyone suggest some great laptop stands that can raise the height of my laptop to a comfortable viewing height?

    Thanks!

You could try these. You could try one set to raise just the back of your machine or two to prop up the whole thing. Can't really go wrong for $1 per set shipped.

I like that idea, but it doesn't really raise my laptop up high enough to be comfortable for my neck. What I'm looking for is really some kind of stand that can lift up my laptop/tilt it so that I can view things at a comfortable eye level

How expensive are you willing to go? HP has, for example, some very nice stands in its business section (like this one), but they're pretty expensive. For something cheaper, there are straight risers like the 3M LX500 Ergonomic Riser (the link is to Sears, you can find it a lot of other places too). I recall that Cin posted some links to some trays with foldable metal legs that might work as well (they were more for use in bed, but I don't see why they couldn't be used on a table too).

To be honest with you, I just put a few books underneath. :p Are you using external peripherals?

@OP check out this lapdawg.com, they have several types of laptop stands that may work for you : ) The X4 & the Pug look neat.

Hm. Wow, those are more expensive than I thought. Still worth consideration, though. I keep getting tempted by this stand from HP, because it just looks so neat. I can't really justify it, though, since I don't normally use an external monitor...

I use the Logitech Alto Wireless, which I got for ~$30 shipped from Amazon. It seems that since then, the price has gone up, though. It was a great deal, since it lifts my T500 to eye level, and also comes with an integrated USB hub and wireless keyboard.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I really like the functionality of the Lapdawg, but I read some people commenting that the joints are not sturdy, so I'm hesitant on getting it. The other stands are tilt-stands which I am also hesitant on getting...since I am planning on using the stand together with my new laptop that I will buy soon (sager np8130) and the people who already have it say that the laptop cannot open to too wide an angle--which will limit the usefulness of those tilt laptop stands. I found the griffin elevator, and it looked nice and I also like the lenovo one that Vogelbung suggested. Anyone know one that is like inbetween both the lenovo/griffin elevator--a laptop elevator that is made of aluminum and is adjustable? I prefer an adjustable one just in case I change my desk/chair and then the height would be a little be different.

The griffin elevator stand says it elevates by 5.5". Is that enough to lift a 15.6" laptop to eye level?

That would depend on the height of your desk/table, naturally; they're not all standardized. The 3M LX500 I recommended is also a flat riser that doesn't tilt; it goes from 4" to 6" only, though. The HP I mentioned is also double-hinged like the Lenovo, and so can be tilted to a flat surface.

The Elevator is designed for (especially the pre-unibody) Macbook Pro's which can't open its screen beyond a certain point. A proper notebook opens out further, and a more steeply pivotable stand will give you much better positioning options.

    Hi Vogelbung,

I've decided on the lenovo stand, but on the site it said that the stand is pre-configured for a 2.5kg (5.5 lb) notebook, but the stand would still work if I configure it as it said "For very light or very heavy weight notebooks, a phillips screwdriver is used to adjust hinge mechanism." right? Anyways, when they state the "width" measurement, is it the longest width or is it the width of the square shape (excluding the side pieces sticking out)? I'm asking since I do plan to take the laptop battery out when I use the stand, and if the stand is not "wide" enough for my 15.6" laptop, then it won't fit on the stand unless I have the battery in it (since it would be resting on an empty side of the laptop).

Oh btw...why is the stand's depth bigger than width? Then won't my laptop sides be sticking out then? Is it poor design or are there actually some laptops that have such a large depth?
