I am about to purchase this:
HITACHI Travelstar 5K100 HTS541010G9AT00 (13G1591) 100GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Hard Drive - OEM
along with a cover to make an external hard drive.
It comes with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty.
Newegg is offering an Optional Extended Warranty 1 year service net replacement for $14.99 and $19.99 for 2 years. I don't understand this extended plan and is it worth it?

With the stock warranty if the thing stops working within 3 years you get it replaced. If you buy the extended warranty, if it stops working in the 4th or 5th year after you purchase it, you'll get it replaced by Newegg instead of the Manufacturer.
