I use a 2.5" 7200 RPM drive with mine but never feel much of any heat. Granted I don't use it for long periods at a time though.

    Is that a 2.5" or a 3.5" ... I am guessing from the size it's a 3.5".

I have a 3.5" enclosure with a fan and it runs pretty cool with an old generation 7200RPM HDD (which I guess might run hotter than the newer ones). But before it I had one with no fan and the thing will start toasting, even though it was all aluminum, in a few minutes even without accessing the HDD in it, that enclosure obviously went back.

The link is in the above post but it is a 3.5" enclosure. No fan that I can actually hear is present.

    Woops ... I speak before I read :p

The one I had was actually the same design but with some unheard of brand. I guess Compusa just gets generic stuff and slabs their brand on them.

I think you can blame the enclosure. I would recommend you get some other brand.

BTW the one I had had no power button, which ment that I have to unplug it each time, which totally sucked.

I'll keep shopping around. In the meantime, I will put up with the heat. I thought that $29 was a good deal. You get what you pay for...
