Hello, I'm looking for a good quality but decently priced external blu-ray drive. I'm investing in one of these because I have to backup large amounts of data, and don't want to backup to 4gb/8gb kind of discs.
If you can give your recommendation please post the link to the one you think it good

If you're looking to back-up large amounts of data you may want to consider a secondary or external hard drive as well.
This looks like a decent blu-ray drive:

is there a link. I also saw this one too,
Newegg.com - Sony Optiarc USB 2.0 6X Slim External BD RW Drive Model BDX-S600U
umm yes I do have external drives, but I think it's also a good idea to back up to discs which I need some thing like a blu-ray disc, to back up some important files. -

Those external drives are slower than internal drives. Maybe you could get an internal drive + an enclosure. Total cost would be about the same but you would get faster burn speeds (with BD-R discs).
Newegg.com - Vantec NexStar DX 5.25" SATA to USB 2.0 External Optical Drive Enclosure - Model NST-530S2
EDIT: Someone who knows more about blu-ray might want to check-in, all Blu-Ray discs I'm seeing are only rated to burn at 6x. Does this mean a 12x speed capable drive is pointless? -
And note that if backing up important data to BlueRay, we absolutely do not know how long they will last. So backing up to hard drives is good too.

If you buy quality blu-ray discs they should last several decades if stored in proper conditions. Of course it depends on whether he's trying to make back-ups or archival back-ups.
