I'm looking to buy an external DVD burner from Dell because I have a $50 coupon and I need a burner. Can anyone suggest a good one from their website? I've looked but I'm not sure what I need. I'm only going to use it every so often to back up my hard drive on a DVD.

Kinda slim pickings there. I always kinda liked BenQ drives.

Of the choices, the Sony has the best performance. With the cost of hardware always dropping, unless you are looking for ultra-high performance save the $110. However, the IOMAGIC is inexpensive and has solid performance. They used to be packaged with full version software for the Power DVD program - check their specs, it may still be the case. -
I was thinking about the IOMagics since I don't need anything that writes super fast. Of these two, which do you believe is better?

I don't really need it to read or write CD's since I already have a CD burner. -
I/O Magic doesn't make any of their own drives. I guess it would depends on which drive it is based off. I think if you are not using it much either will do.
