I want to buy an external DVD burner.
Is there anything wrong with the following, as they offer great speed and price?:

Iomega 8x DVD Burner $210-$30 mail in rebate=$180
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=83899&Sku=I21-8146&CatId=483

Fantom Premier 8x DVD Burner $160-$20 mail in rebate=$140
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=235707&Sku=M261-4100&CatId=483

    Megastar 8x DVD Burner $150
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=924349&Sku=M199-1010&CatId=483

I have never heard of Fantom Premier or Megastar, and am unsure of Iomega's quality. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which burner to get (out of these three, or your own personal choice)?

Should I wait for dual density burners to come out?
How long until we see 16x DVD Burners?

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. These don't have any copy protection for when I transfer my VHS collection to DVD do they?

Personally, I would wait for the newer Dual Layer drives. It should only be a matter of time before we see a drive that supports all formats: DVD+ DVD- R RW DL. Once you see one of those puppies, it'll probably be a safe bet to choose a model.

As far as the different manufacturers you've listed, I've only heard of IOMega and they have a fairly solid reputation. If you can, see if you can find out of they manufacturer there own drives or if it's just a licensing deal akin to Sony/Matshu****a.
