Thought I would give a warning on my experience with Oyyy.co.uk.

Purchased a 500GB Seagate Goflex Slim which is suppose to be 7200RPM and it arrives running at 5400RPM. Been fighting with the company for a month who refuse to help and are ignoring their refund policy because they claim it is 7200RPM and refuse to accept liability. They also claim they will not refund unless the item is faulty.

I am no expert but these are the results from several tests which confirm the drive is running at 5400RPM. I only get 75-80mb/s read from the drive wereas my other 2 running above 100mb/s+. Is there anything else that could cause it to run at such a lower speed or should I look to take action against them they are clearly mis selling the items. They also list the same on Ebay here so if anyone is considering a purchase from them I would be very wary.

Seagate says it goes 7200rpm, so obviously the seller is not going to believe you.

Ask for an exchange, it's quite strange because Seagate spec sheet states that they only sell 7200RPM drives for this range so maybe the manufacturer made a mistake by bunging in the wrong drive? You could try verifying with Seagate support to see if they had put the wrong drive in.

Still OYYY should've done better on the customer service front, selling goods not fitting the description is against the Sales of Goods Act and you got a good case against them if they don't comply. This website is a good source to define what rights you have as a consumer, you can even visit their bureau's and get free advice on how to pursue your case if they still refuse to co-operate.

I have contacted seagate and they just said contact the seller.. :( they do not believe me that is the problem and they claim to have tested it and it runs at 7200RPM even though clearly it does not and I have tried others ports other software and compared it to my other identical seagate which runs way faster and gives the right readings. I have the exact same drive in 320GB format and the box is totally different and says clearly on the box 7200RPM on the 500GB box it does not say it anywhere.

Ordered a 2TB Buffalo Velocity now anyway but will have to demand a refund.

According to the model number (ST500LT012) on Seagate's own webpage the drive is 5400RPM.
    ST500LT012 Momentus® Thin 5400.9 SATA 500 GB Hard Drive

They shipped you a part that did not match the description in your order. In the US you would easily win a chargeback against such a seller if they refused to cooperate. I'm sure in the UK there are similar laws.

In the US you would get a second drive as an apology. In the UK they will apologize (if you are lucky) and maybe return you a new drive or your cash, or just nothing at all.
