    Hey everyone,

I have been searching around for a good 500GB (USB powered) 2.5 inch hard drive case. Has anyone had luck with an inexpensive USB case like this? I am still sifting through Neweggreviews at the moment, but any guidance is always appreciated. Thank you and happy cinco de mayo! (<- Go party :p )

I've had the chance to review several 2.5" external HDD enclosures. My current favorite is the Silverstone TS01B which uses RFID technology to secure the data on the hard drive. I'll be posting a review on it here at NBR soon.

If you just want a basic, no-nonsense external enclosure, try taking a look at the Vizo Shuttle SHE-260ST. It's well built, featuring an all aluminum enclosure with USB 2.0 connectivity and very affordable.

That Silverstone looks really cool. I have already ordered a couple of compatible cases off the egg, but I think that when I need order my next couple, the Silverstone will be the one I suggest. Thank you for your post.

I really like the Silverstone design, never seen that before. I think thats a much better solution then the keypad/fingerprint reader that most people have so far attempted. I would personally love a little RFID tag to unlock my laptop. Would be even easier then the fingerprint reader.

I agree. It's an elegant solution to the age old problem regarding data security. In any case, the only downside with Silverstone's TS01B is that it uses two small-ish RFID tags which can be misplaced or lost. I've spoken to Silverstone about this and was told that they cannot replace these tags if you lose them as they are specifically made for your particular enclosure.
