I bought Seagate 500GB External Hard drive last black friday....

I've been using it, connected to my laptop, everyday since then, and had no

problem until recently...like 2-3 days ago

When I have this harddrive connected to my laptop, it works fine for...don't

know for how long....but when i try to use it constantly, like downloading to it

directly, I seem to have problem keep writing the file to the drive...

when it just stops at one point, i cannot see half the files in the drive

(there are folders, but there are no files in them, i could just go into the

folders, but can't see any files that are supposed to be there) plus other files

that i can 'see' are not openable either

but when i just reconnect it again, it works again, but to find it do the same

thing over again in matter of time

I tried HD tune error scanning, and at one point - around 6th GB point?

    - every sector is 'error' (red) from that point on, as if it disconnected

from the computer, yet the folders in the drive are 'visible' but not 'accessible'

please help! This drive is my data drive, and everything except for programs

    are stored in this drive....

I would highly suggest moving ALL that data IMMEDIATELY. Failing sectors almost always mean one thing...failing drive.

Stop HDTune scanning, just move the data. Reboot that disk as needed, get all the data off, now.

I don't have enough space for the data i have in my external harddrive...it's 230GB of data

and my laptop drive is only 160gb, plus i only have about 80GB free....

should i send the harddrive to Seagate? i think it's 5 year warantee

and i've been only using it for about 2 months...

When you send it in they do not do data recovery unless you pay for it (if you can opt for it that is). If that data is important, stop using the drive, buy another HDD, and then transfer before calling in the warranty.

are you connected via esata? asus has had compatibility issues with esata, make sure you have the latest bios.

and yes, seagate has 5 year warranties. you can check the status of your warranty on their website.
