So I was planning on buying a nice external monitor for my x220, perhaps an ASUS of some sort. I was also going to buy a usb tv tuner, then watch cable off of my external while I browse etc on my x220.

My greatest concern is that running windows media center in the background like that is going to be tough on my i5 processor. What do you guys think?

Am I better off forking out some extra cash and just getting a tv and then hook up my laptop through hdmi when I want to use it as an external?

^ about MPEG2 = ATSC. for decoding NTSC, i don't remember how much CPU you need...

remember T8300 is ~ 2 cycles behind Sandy Bridge, and GPU-assisted wise, 8400M GS is weaker than the HD 3000 IGP your cpu has(unless its one of the i3s which doesnt have HD3000)
