Hello, I'm trying to set up a monitor for my mom with her acer 5315 so she can have a bigger screen. It works nicely, except everything looks stretched out unless I set the resolution to 1440x900. But when I set it to 1440x900, it flickers on and off. Anyone know what's wrong? Don't want my mom to get a seizure lol.

    EDIT:
Before trying what I suggested below, make sure you do this first:
Try plugging in the AC of your laptop to the same power strip your LCD is connected to. If they are connected to different outlets, then they get different voltages and that sometimes causes the flickering.
Also, if it continues, try putting your laptop in to a high performance setting. Take it out of battery saving.

Did you fix the refresh rate? Try giving it a larger value.

here's the link on changing the refresh rate, in case if you don't know:

have you tried installing the drivers?

    That might unlock more settings

I've installed the drivers. Sometimes it flickers on and off, now it's just wavy, and the screen keeps moving, ie left edge moving into middle then moving back. *Sigh*

I turned something called x-contrast on and now it flickers slowly, I'm retarded when it comes to monitors.

I just kept changing the resolution back and forth and now it's ok by itself. Could something be wrong with my monitor?

I already tried changing the refresh rate long before I posted on here, lol. Both 60 and 75 have the same result 75 is the highest option. 60 is the lowest.

Try another computer to check if it is the screen on the source of the output.

I tried another computer, it works just fine. I also tried messing with the clock and pitch, to no avail. I installed the drivers before I even turned the monitor on.

Sounds like maybe you have a ground loop. Try unplugging the AC from the laptop, if it stops the flickering it is probably a ground loop. I had the same problem and fixed it with a cheater 3 prong to 2 prong adapter.
