If I place a hard drive with an OS into the external enclosure and hook it up to my laptop, what shows up on the laptop? Do all the files on the external enclosure show up on my laptop? The laptop currently has windows 7 OS.

No difference between internal or external. Just a little bit slower if you are using usb.
