    Hi Folks

Am looking for an external hard drive primarily for back-up purposes but also to have my desktop data available as I regularly travel overseas for extended periods.

As I have a Samsung NC20 laptop and Samsung S8300 phone my initial consideration is toward the Samsung S2 Portable 500GB drive that I can get for £70. http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?type=87&subtype=88&model_cd=430#

Anyone have any views on this choice or comments regarding alternatives?

I like Samsung and that seems OK. If you're traveling about, it might be worth getting something more rugged, like a Freecom Toughdrive or equivalent. It'll cost a bit more but would be less likely to get broken.

Samsung seems like a good choice, but personally I haven't use it. Try looking for other older brands like seagate/maxtor they are veterans when it comes to HDD and I'm sure you'll find something that suites your taste.
Samsung looks elegant and eye catchy, review user comments if it has regarding its quality and reliability. :)
