OKay so i was cleaning my room and my CRT monitor fell off my desk and onto the floor. i heard a cracking sound from the inside but the glass did not break. I am not risking using it again, but is it safe to pick up from the floor? I read somewhere that a monitor holds a great amount of energy that can kill a man, when its not even plugged in. What should I do?

Get your neighbor to pick it up for you! JK. My friend was shocked when he was working on his computer once. He told me that he determined it came from a capacitor charge held in the monitor. From what I've heard a capacitor will lose its charge fairly quickly after being unplugged. Then again, if you are not handling it's bare wires I don't see how you will be hurt.

If it was me I would probably pick it up and plug it in to see if it still works. I'm not saying it's the safest thing, but I would want to see if it still works and I would be too impatient to set it up in a safer place (middle of the garage floor).

You sure it wasn't the floor cracking?! Those things are heavy!
