Looking at the dv6700t from the HP Home & Office online store, I could get the HP Fingerprint Reader for $25 or the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader for $45. Is there any advantage to purchasing the Microsoft product?

get the integrated fingerprint scanner, it's cheaper and integrated is always better (minus GPU)

Yes, get the integrated reader. The one HP uses on mine is great!
