Hi. My laptop comes with a 4pin Firewire input and some devices I use (ipod, external disk, etc) have a 6pin output. Is there an adaptor/convertor that I can use in order for the 6pin cables to be used in the 4pin plug?

    more like a cable: (male)4pin----(female)6pin i think
most of the cables are just connections cables, like (male)4pin----(male)6pin

Yes, there are 4 pin to 6 pin adaptors available. I got mine at Radioshack. I believe the 4 pin connectors leave out the bus power provided in the 6 pin connector, meaning that a firewire device cannot be powered by the firewire port.

Yes, that is true. As said, the 4pin host only provide the data link, whereas the 6pin one will provide both the data and power links[ ;)]

With a Google search the 6 pin to 4 pin adaptors can be found for under $5.00 each.

My old 3G iPod actually came with a convertor ... I am not sure if 4G or newer iPods come with them. I don't think they do since I didn't get one with my 4G. I might be wrong. I'm useless!
