Do they exist? I have found the apple iSight and 1 or 2 really cheap looking ones (judging their specs). Has anybody found one or even looked for one?

    Thanks

If you intend to use the webcam for still pictures, there is no difference between a USB or a firewire webcam due to the tiny amount of data that gets transferred. However, if you intend to use the webcam for video, the quality is a notch better in a firewire webcam as firewire devices run without loading the host CPU with interrupts and buffer-copy operations. If you intend to use the webcam for video via Instant Messengers, the quality of your video will still not be good for the other user as the Instant Messengers compress the video for faster transfer over the Internet.

You can make your own firewire webcam by using any regular camcorder that supports webcam function, as most camcorders anyway use firewire connection.

Thanks for the response's everybody. To JohhnyT and ahl395 those were the few that I had found but the resolution really isnt all that great. Thanks for the effort of searching though.

To sinstoic, I wouldnt be using it for still pictures, ive got a decent camera for that, its more for making video's to send home to my family. I dont really want to have to get my HD camera shipped to where I am, sand isnt really a friend of electronics and somehow it gets everywhere.

Does anyone know if you can mod a USB webcam into a firewire webcam?
