I have my computer hooked up through a vga cable to an lcd tv. When the power cord for my computer is not plugged in, it works just fine. However, if I try to use my computer with my TV while the power is plugged in, I get flickering horizontal lines on the TV. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

Could be due to some sort of an electromagnetic interference, if that is the case then using a better shielded VGA cable could help.

BTW is the power adapter kept close to the VGA cable ?

    Try this...

    1. Take out the laptop power cable and use with battery.
    2. Remove any input cable on the TV except the laptop TV out one.
    3. If you still have this issue, change the laptop cable
    4. If problem persists...TV or Laptop issue...or driver issue.

i had the same problem you were having after numerous attempts to solve the problem and combining some logic (my hdtv only flickers when I plug it in to charge, when it was not on charge there was no flicker) so the power outlet must be the source of the problem.

First, if your tv still flickers even tho you are not plugging it in charge then this probably isn't the solution and it may be your video card.

My solution(both worked for me): plug your tv or your laptop charger on to a separate power outlets. If you are not within reach of another outlet then on the same power surge as your tv, add a outlet splitter or adapter to your laptop charger before plugging it into your power surge.

forgot to mention, you could also try a different power surge if that is more convenient
