Do you still use a floppy disk? If yes, what for? When was the last time that you use it?

I got an old USB floppy for my lappy. Last time I used it was for a bios update. Now all bios updates come as CD images so no need for it anymore. I am keeping it just incase anyway.

I have one on my desktop. It has a raid controler and Win XP needs drivers on install which can only be given by floppy. I was always lazy to slipstream the drivers. Now with Vista you can supply the drivers by USB stick so I think there is zero need for floppies. I will keep my floppy on my desktop because it has a build in card reader but I dont think I will ever use the floppy part.

I still boot MS-DOS from floppies on my desktop. There's things you can do with DOS that you can't with Windows Command Prompt. Loads of people take the mick out of me for using DOS but for some of the programming I do it's a necessity.

Can you boot to the old MS-DOS from a USB thumbdrive or a CD?

You probably could actually - I'll copy the floppies on and give it a go. Nice idea!

I've got a USB FDD in the drawer for emergencies.

I haven't used it myself for some time but a neighbour used it a few months back to solve a problem.

Theres a floppy drive on this comp, but it's old. I have about 20 floppies but i think i'll sell 'em on eB. Don't need 'em because i have about 30 CD-RW/CD-R's.

I still use floppies fairly often. Both of my old laptops were built for Windows 95 and thus lack USB drives, so floppies are the only method of transfer. I also haven't gotten around to updating my old Windows 98 desktop's drivers to work with my USB flash drive, so I'll still use floppies with that from time to time.

Last time I used a floppy - 1.68 MB reformatted floppy on May 31st, to transfer a 1.40 MB file to my laptop.

I can count 34 floppies from where I'm sitting, and that doesn't include the one I most recently used. Their use ought to decline once I finally buy a new laptop.

On the last machine I had that had a floppy drive I burned a bootable CD with MS-DOS 6.22, FDisk, Format, Attrib, and some of the other DOS commands that prove useful on it.
