Just thought I'd throw this out there as food for thought. I've thought about it a bit, but could never think of a reasonable way to virtually eliminate the need for wires with a PC.
By wires I mean external, not necessarily internal to the PC. I hate cords from headset, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc that just clutter up the PC area. And portable accessories like headphones especially.
Seems that there should be a way to eliminate this clutter and make everything wireless of some sort. I know there's wireless networking, mice, keyboards, etc but they're far from using a wired version.
Any thoughts, ideas?

i don't know, bro. i like my wireless mouse alot. as a matter of fact, it's the best mouse i've had ever, wired or no wires. and we're still a few years from no power cord. the technology is out there, it's just not effecient and economical yet. plus, i don't know, i'm just saying, i'm sure there's an optimal frequency range for charging wirelessly and it might already be used and have to go through lots of beauracracy to be set aside when the time comes for it to be mainstream.

Yes. I had the idea...in my head, but then, i searched it and someone is working on it.
The idea for virtually wireless everything. The problem with wireless things? They need batteries. Wireless mice, keyboards, controlers, headsets, ect.
Batterys. Cannot power a source from the air? Nah...thats wayy to complicated.
But. What about contacts? Think of it this way. A computer that is built into a desk. Power flows (i'm not sure of all the physics) through the desk, and the accessories being used, can be powered without cords. Simply though the contacts. Just like when you set your phone in the charging dock. Put contacts on the bottem of all keyboards/mice, and ect, and then they can be powered by the desktop. Cool eh? -

yeah, batteries suck... literally
But I know there is a technology out there but haven't seen it surface yet for general public, that is just a "recharge pad". It essentially will recharge any rechargable battery from small devices, just by setting it on the pad. No contacts needed.
Here's a few links:

Great idea IMHO for many applications.
One of these days though, once we figure out containable fusion, there'll be mini fusion power-packs in every device we can think of that last 20 years.
Also, PC's need a single wireless standard, like wireless USB. Bluetooth is ok, but has its definite limitations. We need faster and parallel wireless connections for input devices. -
I have a cordless mouse that uses the pad for recharging. No batteries. It`s light as a feather, but big enough for gaming. I`ll post some shots of it tomorrow, too late now,it`s 3 am here
I think they can do everything like that. -
I might get *****ed at for mentioning this but I feel its relevant...wireless in small amounts is harmless, but turning every piece of equipment into wireless, and using electromagnetic fields to power your devices? Sounds like a bad case of radiation overdose especially for your hands around these "pads" all the time.
-
Well, sad to say but you're getting a significant amount of "radiation overdose" from all the cell phone, wireless networks, TV antennas, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum. That little bit won't make a difference.
We're all going to die... just how quickly?
So say we all... -

Just have paperwork on your desk. Eventually all the cables will be buried under the paperwork and problem solved.

You sir are wrong....
I have wireless router in my Room & i have sleeping problems...

Any of you fearmongers ever been outside in the sunshine?
The tech is ready now, few more years it'll be ready for market.

The only wire left is the power cable all others can be eliminated. With bluetooth and Wireless USB with a wireless usb hub.
I have used a scanner, bar code reader, web cam, and tv tuner through a Wireless usb hub. -

At the expense of having to charge everything, I am fine with not all wireless. Somethings like the keyboard and mouse are great wireless, but the monitor, speakers, pda dock, etc, are fine being wired, plug them in once and you are good to go.
