    Hi,

To begin with, I have read the guide to gaming mice already, but was really looking for more opinions on which mouse to buy.

I don't really know what catagory of gamer I fall into, but in general I game around 6-8 hours a week, although I do use the palm grip as mentioned in the guide, if that helps at all. This may not be much, or enough of an excuse to spend around 100 euros, but I am fed up of my current mouse. I spend quite alot of time image editing, music recording and recently have been heavily involved with magazine editing/creation in indesign, all of which require alot of clicking between windows and this is where I really want a mouse with easily changable dpi settings so I can adjust the sensitivity to what is best suited for the task at hand.

I'm also looking for something that is relatively comfortable, as my current mouse is not as comfrotable as I would like.

I have narrowed it down to three/four I think:
    Logitech G5
    Microsoft Sidewinder
    Microsoft Habu
    (and possibly Logitech G9).

Mostly because they are easily availiable and look quite good, I have to say I am edging towards the G5 because of cost, but I also like the look of the Sidewinder because it is quite long, and possibly more comfortable?

Also I notice many people appear to have or are in favour of the G9, but a question to G9 users, is it comfortable? I would assume not as it seems very wide and short, but I would be happy to be wrong in thinking that.

Any advice or views on any of these mice would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,

    Chris.

What kind of mouse do you have now? This would help since this would let us know what not to recommend. I didn't like the feel of the Sidewinder or G9 personally. I found the mice to be too flat, no hump for your hand to curve, which I find comfortable. I felt that after about 20 mins of use the G9 and Sidewinder would cause me pain in my wrist and fingers, but thats what my initial impression was. If I was to go for a gaming mouse I would go for the G5. I like the design of the paint, comfort, high DPI and laser. Just my opinion.

I'd pick the G5, as you don't really gain anything from the others with the higher price tag.

Logitech G5 might suit you better.

I like the sidewinder. It feels better in my hand then the G5 and it looks pretty awesome too. I don't like the size of the G5, my pinkie feels out of place and dragging along. As for price tag, anything can be cheap if you look hard enuf.

case in point: 7 inch digital picture frame, 20 bucks plus shipping.

do some digging, it's worth it.

Forgot to mention that, I currently have a logitech wireless optical mouse, it came in a package with the keyboard, and is called 'Wireless Desktop EX110'. I'm affriad thats all the detail I can give you as I have thrown away the box, and cant find it on their website.

    Thanks for the advice,

    Chris

Of the above named mice, the G9 is my favorite, but I had to put some felt adhesive pads under the grip shell to remove the shell flex. It's pretty comfortable and has 9 macro-programmable buttons (only the Saitek Cyborg has more at 11).

The Ikari Steel Series Laser mouse is a better palm grip mouse than the G9 because it supports your entire hand in a low height ergo-position. The G9's raised back and low-height front makes it more ideal for claw-grip users. I can use either mice for hours without any hand fatigue, and I game quite a bit.

The G9 wide grip coating durability is questionable. I use mine quite a bit and it's starting to look beat up but that's not really too big of an issue to me. I like the features and feel of the G9 and use it for gaming, but my G5 is comfortable to use as well.

The shape of the G5 and G9 is very different though. As said before, G9 is quite flat whereas the G5 supports the palm much more.

Best recommendation as always is to go find a store where you can try the feel of each as mouse choice is very much personal preference. Sidewinder is a very large mouse, and I haven't checked out the Habu yet.

I'd pick a G5 or G9 over any Razer offering.

I have used the mouse that came with EX110. It sucks harder than a jet turbine to say the last.

Of the mice that you have listed: I would go with the G5. It's one of the most popular [the most popular?] gaming mice of all time. And that didn't happen by accident. It's VERY comfortable and has good performance for a gamer. Still one of the best gaming mice out there.

Another vote for the G5, maybe go to a store that has a display model and see how it fits your palm. Would be great to compare them all at one store if that is possible...

That's a good idea. Even your local Best Buy should have them. Just make sure you don't actually buy from Best Buy. No matter what all those ignorant geek squad guys say. :p

Also, the G5 comes with little weights that you can use to change the weight of the mouse to your liking.

i personally have a logitech G5 and ever since i got it, my gaming has been alot better. no lies haha. its very comfortable and the adjustable weights allow you to make it how light or how heavy you want it..i have mine at all light weights with 1 heavy inside. fits perfect for me.

G5 or if you can Razer DeathAdder...both very good mice, especially for palm grips

I wanted to like the G5, but I found that it and other peanut-shaped Logitechs caused pain in the right hand's ring finger due to its raised front edge design.

The best thing to do is try out the mouse first-hand and see if it comfortably fits your hand, because regardless of how popular it is, if it doesn't fit, that mouse will not help your game long term.

G5 is the best IMO. Even though the new one is really ugly, they have the additional side button that was missing on the first gens. It is very comfortable and glides across the mousepad easily. The braided cord is also a plus.

I suggest the G5. I had the Sidewinder and holy hell that thing was big and awkward. The G5 just kinda "flows" with the natural geometry of the hand.

I'm nothing more than a casual gamer, is a gaming mousing a good purchase that will actually improve my gaming experience? Also wil buying another mouse possibly help with wrist issues i have recently been having due to gaming?

It is possible that it could help alleviate the pain, but we wont know unless you actually try the mice. You have to see the one that fits best with your hand. A high DPI mouse could possibly be a convenience in normal day to day tasks as well, as you wont have to move the mouse too far.

Yes, gaming mice are generally very comfortable, I actually use mine for web surfing more than gaming. :p But obviously as mentioned many times in this thread, try them all out!

I would recommend you to go to some shop, where you can actually try out the shape of the mice, jus to know which one would suit you better. But I would go for the G5 or Razer Diamondback. Diamondback doesnt have the same sensitivity like the G5 but as I said before,if you are a serious gamer or you want to get the most from gaming, you have to try out the shapes to know which one would fall better into your hand.
