Ok, so I've heard a lot both ways about the effectiveness of wireless mouses for gaming. I want to know if the G7 is worth it for gaming. I have to admit, the lack of the forward button on the side bugs me.

    I'm either going with this or a G5 + v320 instead.
    Suggestions?

The G7 is good, but I, too, cannot stand the missing thumb button. If I were you I'd get the G5 (or MX518, or even the G9X) and a good wireless non-gaming mouse like the V320.

Which would you say is better; G5, G9, or MX518?

G9. I would buy it in a heartbeat if Logitech made it wireless.

I just got a G9 this week and love it. It is one of the few accessories that I think was fully worth the price.

Out of those three, the G9 is best, but the G9X is better than that. It's the exact same mouse but with a more precise laser.

MX518 have the best sensor of the 3, more buttons, cheaper.

    Can't be beat IMO.

On the right suface, laser > optical.

I'm either going G9 or G7, only reason I'm hesitant about G9 is I'm not sure if a palm mouse would better suit me...

The G9 has both palm-style and claw-style changeable grips.
    Relative. ;)

    Just my two cents :)

I had a G7 some time ago, and it was a really nice mouse. Very similar to G5, which I still have. I had no problems with lags or battery (battery lasted 1-2 days, but you could swap it in less than 10 seconds, I'd say 5 seconds if you practice enough :D ).

Unfortunately, my G7 broke two months ago (LMB stopped working properly), so I had it replaced with an MX Revolution. MX Rev is considerably less responsive than G7, but after a week or two I got used to it.
