Just want to make a public service announcement here. I just went and got the G7 mouse which is causing noise on my desktop's speakers. This isn't due to the wireless part actually which makes senses cause I have been using wifi and a 2.4 GHz cordless phone and never got this annonying humming noise before.

I messed around with it and I have narrowed it down to some sort of noise being fed back into the system by the usb dongle when it's operating. If i move the dongle to my laptop and use the mouse there no problems. Unplug the speaker wires but keep the dongle on the desktop no issue.

So I think this is an issue with the onboard sound. So I am going to have to A) go to another mouse or B) get a sound card. Sigh....

I get this weird interference noise in my headphones when I press keys on my Belkin wireless keyboard.

Can you plug the receiver into a different USB port on the desktop? As in, in a completely different bank of ports? Have you plugged the speakers into your laptop as well as the G7?

But your analysis seems pretty sound overall, though. See if it depends on proximity of the dongle to the speakers as well. That's where the most power will be transmitted.

Yeah, its just what happens when you use some of your laptops power, I've noticed it when my HDD starts spinning faster or something like that. Its like you can hear it operating through your headphones. I would do what Pitabred suggested. Try it in all USB ports and see if there is one that doesn't cause the background noise.
