I'm not a hardcore gamer, I play a good amount of Starcraft 2 though and a lot of 3D modeling. I don't think the number of customizable buttons will be a problem for me.
I narrowed it down to these two plus I have a 30% off coupon for Logitech products.
Performance MX:
- Works on more surfaces
- Comes with a carrying pouch
- USB Cable for charging only, taking up 2 USB ports (charger + receiver)
G700:
- USB Wired Mode
- Kinda ugly (in my opinion)
I'm also interested in how people use it. Do you just throw it into a bag when you're on the go or put it in a pouch? With only 2 day battery life, how long does it take to charge and when do you charge it? I don't really want to have to pull my mouse out when I'm not using the laptop just to charge it.
-
I'd pick the G700. But I think it's actually more attractive than the Performance MX.
Darkfield laser tracking is essentially a marketing gimmick anyway.
-
I'd go with the G700. The only thing that the Performance MX can track on that the G700 will have trouble on is glass, which probably won't be an issue for you unless you mouse on a bare transparent glass desk.
As for charging, you can just do what I do with my Mamba, charge it every night when you go to bed and unplug it when you get up. -
G700. No contest IMO.
-
Well one more thing is that the g700 has a maximum dpi of 5700. And the MX I think is just up to 1500.
-
Thanks for the recommendations. Has anyone thought about getting a second USB cable to permanently plug into their desktop and use the one G700 between both the notebook and desktop?
-
compared anywhereMX & Orochi once, on 3 different surfaces:
- messed plastic
- un-even couch surface
- Mirror !
and darkfield beats them all. while other don't even move on mirror, and having problem on plastic and couch.
back on topic I vote G700 too -
The G700 it is. Do I need a pouch for it when I throw it in a bag?
-
I love my Performance MX.
Still got my older Revolution MX, but wanted to get the tiny wireless reciever.
For me the Perf. MX covers my needs, its not as "fast" as the gaming brand stuff but its accurate and Logitechs SetPoint suite is just awesome. -

Apple and Razer are both looking into licensing the Darkfield technology from Logitech or so that's what Logitech told me anyways.
-
I get glass table many times when I go outside, and really having problem when I used vx nano (end up with paper as mousemat)
and now I just put the mouse on table and that's it ! -
logitech made the mouse for versatility. A sensor that tracks on pretty much any surface is too classy to be called a gimmick. Whats gimmicky is Razer and their Tron gaming mouse that causes a light trail on the tron mousemat..
Im sure many people have chosen not to pay the premium for a darkfield mouse becuase they have told themselves "hmm i only need a sensor that tracks on my mousepad". But as for that Tron mouse and mousemat (and alot of razer products). Alot of people will end up buying with their eyes. Thats how gimmicks work. -

The Razer Tron Mouse... Well... -

Airplane food trays, seat cushions, polished granite tables in airport lounges, hotel desks with glass surfaces on them. I run into those kinds of surfaces all the time when I travel for work. And believe me, it is really nice to have a mouse that you can just pull out and you KNOW will work on whatever surface you have. -

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm in the market for a new mouse aswell and made my mind on the G700. Currently I own a RAT7 but I want a wireless one and apparently the G700 is best out there with a microreceiver aswell.
Does anybody know, or heard any rumors, if the G700 is gonna be replaced soon by some other model? As long as I plan to hold it for as long as it cna last, I dont wanna buy an EoL product.
Cheers. -
Things like that aren't usually announced ahead of time. In any case, even if they come out with a new model tomorrow, you'll still have 2 years of warranty.

One more thing that I'm concerned about is the wireless performance. To make a long story short, couse ive been rewriting this message for the past 5 minutes, is it good or is it bad? I have 2 different wireless networks @ my home, both in 2.4ghz band (one on channel 6 and other on channel 11)
I take it that in high gaming mode (or something similar) there is no performance loss in wireless mode, just the battery life.
Thanks a bunch. -
If you are talking about wireless interference, then that again is probably not an issue, unless you were using your mouse next to a microwave oven. -
I've been using my Mamba about a foot and a half from my phone broadcasting WiFi, and my computer's WiFi receiver, and I can honestly say it has never had any interference. You should be fine.

My G700 gets no interference and I run two routers and a wireless keyboard all near the vicinity of the mouse and my laptop. I think Logitech set the receiver to work on a rare, unoccupied channel that isn't always occupied by other electronics. Either way, the wireless gameplay is fantastic.

G700. Hands down.
Brother has a Performance MX. It's a nice mouse, not for for me.
For gaming G700. Everyday, G700. Any other time, G700.
5700 dpi. Lots of different set ups you can do. 1000mhz polling.
Just like the Performance MX, it'll be two usb ports.
1 for the micro dongle
1 for the charging cable
The frequencies with router, wireless keyboard, bluetooth, etc etc. No problems.
Problems with gaming, none.
To simply put it, G700 is where it's at. Nothing else to say. How can you go wrong? You can't.
-
And if the unifying USB connector is considered in the mix...?
Being able to share the mouse with other systems without having to swap USB adapters would seem an advantage.
Desktop gaming and notebook gaming using same mouse with existing USB dongle. -
Thanks for the answers. I ordered mine yesterday and it should be here tomorrow. Hate the prices on electronics here, paid 110 euros for it :|

Sorry, the G700. Truth be told, I've had my eye on it since last year but was really put back by the wireless issues (which by further readings I understand were fixed by software releases) and back then I bought a RAT7.

Aloha hombres!!
Just went to the store and picked up the mouse myself. Couldnt wait another day for the delivery car.
I must say I am impressed. Feels nice, looks nice, works awesome!
Simply put, it is: LEGEN ... wait for it...MOUSE
And if anybody else is reading this, there is no wireless lag. I tried in both 500 reports mode and also in 1000. In neither does it jump nor skip any movement.
If by any chance I wanna use it in wired, is there any negative effect if i pull out the NIMh battery? These things have a different usage scenario than LiPo/LiIo batteries I'm used to and wanna protect it as much as possible and not over charge it. -
Interested in the G700 as well, but.....
Can the USB receiver work with any other Logitech products particularly a keyboard?
Also, how is the Performance MX with RTS games like SC2? Is there a noticeable lag? I don't know how it performs with shooters like COD. -
I dont have other wireless logitechs in the house, but from what I read and that seems to be consistent in all reviews, the receiver in the g700 kit is not an unifying receiver.
-
2) PErformance MX usability in RTS games depends on how picky you are.
If you don't care about DPI and USB polling rates, if you don't know what they are, or if you don't know what they mean when it comes to mouse movement - then you don't need a gaming mouse. And if you don't need a gaming mouse, then you can buy any old mouse and it will work just fine.
The one major benefit of the Performacne MX is the Darkfield imaging laser sensor, which lets you mouse on any surface (including glass and polished granite). And you pay quite a bit of money for that imaging sensor. So unless you're going to be using your mouse on glass or polished stone, skip the Performance MX and get a cheaper mouse instead.
However, if you DO care about mouse performance, and want high DPI and high USB polling rates, then you will want a gaming mouse like the Logitech G700.
It's sort of like buying a Ferrari. If you do not know WHY a Ferrari is awesome, then you shouldn't buy one. -
That said, the Performance MX is an amazing mouse. You'll be fine for normal SC2 play. If you competitively, you'll want a real gaming mouse.
And if you play ultra-competitively, you'll need this:

So I ended up getting both (lol) cause I had a nice coupon for them. The Performance MX for my desktop which already has a unifying receiver for the keyboard and the G700 for my notebook. My new notebook doesn't arrive until later this week so I haven't test out the G700 yet but I have tested out the Performance MX and it's really nice. Only problem I really have with it is that the scroll wheel seems a bit too sensitive in freespin mode compared to my G9. Not sure if anybody else has noticed this.
-
You should be able to lower the scroll sensitivity; by default it's 3 lines per notch IIRC. You can try setting it to 1 or 2.
-
You'll love the G700. Once you get the dpi and settings how you want it for gaming; you'll be set. I was the same way with the freespin as well. Not really hated it, just wasn't used to it and preferred the mouse wheel with the detent on so it clicks. But now after using it more, it's a lot better than when the detent is in, imo. Plus its becoming a habit of playing around with the freewheel always spinning it.
You'll get used to it, just play around with the settings. Good purchase buddy
G700 or Performance MX?
