Other than Microsoft Streets and Trips Combo (w/ added GPS reciever) are there any good portable GPS units/software on the market?
I'd like something that can connect to the comp and upload current position on a pre-loaded map of somesort, possibly similar to google-maps but w/out the necessary internet connection.
and if possible, I would really prefer it to be available for undeveloped land (i.e. nature) for geo-caching purposes.
anyone know of anything good?

I use an Earthmate USB receiver on my Panasonic Y2. For road trips I use the Garmin St. & Trips software. For out and about stuff within my county the same receiver works fine with some ARC View software and ARC View land data files for my area. You may want to check with the county gov't. where you live and see if they allow the private use (and possible downloading) of ARC View data sets for you to use
. We can put the notebook in a backpack and just roam around with the Earthmate receiver sticking out (velcro tie) and take way points all day. Pretty cool.
GPS equip / software?
