    Hello,
so I was thinking about this...

there are some GPS receivers for laptops on the market...

do you think a laptop (dell inspiron 1420) could have actually been used as a GPS navigation system???

    What gps receiver to buy?
    What software to use?
    Real life experiences?

    Thanks!

I'm interested in this also.I'm a pilot and boater.I wouldn't mind a back up GPS on my lappy. It'd also be handy for road trips.Even if it is a GPS system for driving it can still let me know what highways are close when flying. When boating it can let me know the same thing.GPS,what an amazing technology. :spinny:

The best one that I know of is Microsofts.

Its well supported and you can get it at walmart even, so its easy to find.

    http://www.microsoft.com/streets/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=001

Free service for basic stuff or you can pay for advanced functions like keeping track of where the cheapest gas prices are ect.

Get that and a adapter to plug your laptop in your car lighter socket and your set.

Price has gone down too it was 100$ when I wanted to get it, I almost got it just as a toy because its so cool.

    P.S. Your Welcome :p

I'm thinking: what about long road trip that lasts longer than your notebook's battery life?

I got one of those small inverters that plugs in the ciggy lighter.Works ok.True sine wave inverters work better but it's hard to find any that plug into the ciggy socket. Most are large and require large wires ran straight from the battery.
