Just want to tune in and see what other people are doing.

If you have a notebook and use gps on it, mind sharing what you use for your software/setup/hardware? Any tips/advice, stories ect.

The temptation is too strong for me to fight now that I have a EEE 1000H with its long battery life and little form factor I want to try out GPS, mostly for the fun of it for now, but would love to have it around for a serious occasion should it arise.

The main program I knew of is Microsoft Streets & Trips. I found that MS has a free 60 day trial of the 2009 version (HERE) so I downloaded it and played with it some with no gps receiver and its pretty handy even without gps. Today however I went on ebay and took advantage of the 30% cash back with live search and got this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=310088189409

Seemed like a good deal, I do not know much about GPS I just know that Sirf III is supposed to be good, and that NMEA is something you want, and that it has parallel channels which is the best (and 20 of them at that) so this should be a good gps unit. I like bluetooth stuff but could not find any "good" bluetooth modules for cheap and plus thats just more batteries to keep track of.

I was only looking for the gps unit for now since if I get S&T I wanted the 2009 version, but I found this auction about 10 min ago.

For about $20 more I could have had the 2008 software and I think the GPS receiver that comes with it is nearly as good as the one I just got so feedback would be welcome on that on if I made a boo boo and should have got the S&T package instead of the stand alone receiver. Plus not sure if you can just "upgrade" from one year to the next cheaper than buying the whole thing over again.

The other software that I now have found out about that I like how it works (saw some of it in action on a EEE on youtube) is INavs iGuidance, another reason I thought just getting the receiver was a good idea should I want this software instead.

So anyways, this is the GPS lounge let the games begin!
