Hi, i know this is for software and not hardware, however there are 95 of us viewing here and 4 where my actual post should go! Im sure you wont mind helping? :D

Anyways, im looking to buy a wireless xbox 360 controller (about time!) and was wondering if this controller ( Xbox 360 Wireless Controller For Windows: Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games) would be compatible?

I'm running my Asus G73 on windows 7 (of course), should there be any problems? I know i prob need to update the driver to make it compatible but i need some advice for piece of mind before i fork out on this! Cheers in advance!

I moved your thread to accessories as it likely pertains to this section more.

Should work fine, but all you have to do is install the driver. If a game doesnt support it there are third party programs in the 15 to 25$ range which will allow you to customize it for the games that are not compatible.

Dont worry its not wrong, although the gaming forum is gaming specific there are a lot of controller discussions here so it may be a better sub forum.

PortX360 1.0 is just an example ( not a fan of that one ) its freeware but there are far better ones available if you google a bit

I use a logitech duel action gamepad. Its feedback is very precise. Iv used others that arn't as nice and that were no wear near as precise. Here its cheap and will work better then most other controllers out there even some that are worth more then it I found out. you can get them most any where; Bestbuy, some walmart's barnes & Noble. Your xbox controller may be built better but you might like to give this logitech a go and see how it handles the games you want to play with it. Every controller has its own feel and playability.

I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller in Windows 7 in the rare cases when I want to use a game pad.

The item you linked will be fine. Just so you know, the package includes both the gamepad AND the wireless receiver that you need to plug in to your laptop, so you do not need to buy anything additional.

The only problem with the X360 controller in Windows is that it has no deadzone on the analog sticks, so if the game you're playing has no deadzone setting of its own, they get a bit.. wobbly. Especially difficult if you're playing a driving game and trying to go in a straight line. Not good when you need a bit of precision.

Most games like that probably have a deadzone adjustment in the options, but if not try something like the XBCD+ drivers they offer many more options than the stock MS drivers on the 360 controller.

There are many more options for a good brand name controller for PC than the 360 controller even though itis the most common choice, thats why I put together this review/guide for laptop gaming controllers

i use the ps3 gamepad now that i have internal bluetooth on my laptop but i did use a wireless 360 pad before. the 360 pad is a great controller but the poor implementation on the dpad is a killer which the ps3 dualshock 3 has no problem with. im pretty sure with win 7 you dont even need to download the software for the 360 controller since ive used it without the software before. ever since the ps3 controller was able to emulate a wireless 360 pad ive had no issue with it at all though so maybe take a look at that as an option.
