I'm going to ask a dumb question here so I'll apologise now!!!

Do people generally use the mouse / keyboard combo to play these games or can anyone recommend a decent game controller? This might seem strange but these are the first game purchases in quite a while...... :eek2:

    Thanks :D

I use a mouse and keyboard.

I do have the wireless XBOX 360 controller for windows, but I find a mouse and a keyboard is much easier to play on. I use the controller for racing games so far only.

But, if you want a controller, the 360 controller is great.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely check both controllers out. I tried to play COD4 with the mouse and keys last night and found it a bit cumbersome (and also having to remember what key does what!)

    Thanks again :D

I recieved my issue of game informer today, they said that no other shooter plays as well as CoD4 on a controller, not even halo. If I were you I would get the controller if you don't want to use a keyboard and mouse.

I personally recommend the Logitech wireless rumblepad. For the price(about $25), range, battery life and durability of the product there are few if any that can compare. I bought mine in January and i have yet to change the batteries and i have gone through at least 12 games in that time frame.

I use a program called XPadder (I think) for my 360 controller. I can map keys for specific games and I believe you could use your controller in COD4 using this software. I don't know if this program is only specific to the 360 controller or not.

You do not want to use a gamepad on a PC first person shooter game, you will be owned constantly if you do.

Mouse + Keyboard is way more accurate for the PC.

Hence why not to many multiplayer cross platform games (PC vs. 360 vs. PS3) exist. The PC users would own console users and their inaccurate and slow thumbsticks.

I only use my controller for racing. anything that requires a mouse to look around is usually not good for gamepads. Not to mention a lot of shooters don't support the gamepad. I tried to use mine in HL2: Episode 2, and it had an option to use a gamepad, but it didn't allow me to use any of the buttons or the right analog stick.

Call me weird (because you'd be right), but I use an adaptoid and my good ol N64 controller for gaming. Granted, there is barely enough buttons for FPS gaming, but I still love the damn thing. For some reason, any gamepad that has a control stick located in the same general area that the Playstation controller does just plays like crap for me.

    Moving on. :p

I had a Logitech Rumbler but found that games had better support for MS Xbox 360 controller, so switched and has never looked back. It fits better in my hands and the trigger buttons are cool.
I'm a casual gamer, so I'll rather enjoy the experience with a laid back attitute and a rumbbeling gamepad than hecticaly moving a mouse.
I played Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Lost Planet, Gears of War and NFS with the gamepad, and IMO it's more fun. Though it has be said, when I got tired of bioshock (You can wrech your way through it if you upgrade that way), I switched back to M&K to finish it off, and as already mentioned, it's easier to aim.
