I know we've had a number of threads about headphones, but my question is regarding headsets with microphones.

Since I have this shiny Sager 5760, I'm gonna be gaming on it. So I need a good pair of semi portable headphones, but also a halfway decent microphone for multiplayer.

So what are some headsets with mics for gaming that still give good sound quality? Or should I get some good headphones and a separate microphone?

If you have some money to spend, I would recommend the Shure E2C earphones. My friend has got the pair and the sound qaulity is superb, even is semi-noisy conditions, thanks to their noise cancelling ability.

I would not bother buying a mic, just use your laptop, built in mic. Voice sound quality is quite bad in game anyway.

I'm not sure what was the last game you played with voice, but quality is quite good in all the STEAM games (CS, DOD) and i've heard it's excellent in BF2 also.

I plan on testing my built in mic. the mic on the 5760 is in one of the front corners, so not as far away as some.

alot of clans and what not will also use teamspeak which often comes in at a very good bit rate for voice.

btw, i have logitech headsets, both analog and usb. the usb quality is better and easier though a bit pricier. as to portability... depends...

Well I primarily want good sound, which is why using the onboard mic with a good set of headphones might be preferable.

since you can afford a sager i'd go with at least a shure e4 or even e5..though they are more expensive they are much better than the entry level e2

I personally love Sennheiser headphones. Great sound. Don't know how well they work into online voice chat during games though.

All Shure earphones give unprecedented sound quality and i think it is a waste of money going for the e4 or e5 models. I seriously doubt that you could recognise the difference in sound quality from the e2 and e4 series.

I play Half Life 2 Deathmatch on Steam and the sound quality when you speak is terrible in my opinion, there is so much noise and disturbance in voice messages, you cannot make out out what the other player is saying.
