I was looking through some Headsets and found the Corsair 1500 and 2000. Both seem really nice in design (love the sleek metal look), and the memory foam cushions looks really comforting. However people complained that the sound in the 1500 isn't that great, while the 2000 doesn't have Dolby drivers like the 1500, which provide bad surround sound. So my concern is, does anyone known good headsets that can provide outstanding comfort, but acceptable sound and surround? And the mic doesn't need to be crystal crisp.

    Budget is ~$100.

Surround sound + headphones = meh. Get an Audio Technica AD700 with a mod-mic and you will have better directional sound than any l337 7.1 Surround Sound Dolby HD Pwnzer Gaming Headset.

Sennheiser PC series is also a good choice

The most comfortable would be a Sennheiser PX100-II with a Monoprice desktop mic (or you can get the PX100-II with a built in microphone).

I bought the Plantronics Gamecom 780 Headset, it's great. 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound, comfortable, and the mic is excellent.

The 1500 gets the job done pretty well for gaming, it's "ok" for listening to music, but won't beat a decent headphone in wound quality. Worth it when it's on sale, not entirely sure it's worth it's full price though.

HAHA that modmic seems like a neat invention.
Might think about doing this instead.

I heard a lot of positive reviews about the 1500 as well.

Hmmmm, the 1500 or headphones with a modmic?

Just hit up the modmic guys to see if I can review the product, seems a rather small production crew not a big company so they are waiting for stuff to come in and still somewhat in the testing/improvement phase for the product.

I have done this same mod before a long time ago :D

There is a bit more clean than mine :D (but they should think about a few things I used like a cheap USB adapter)

Razor stuff is fad/fanboy based looks are not a part of what makes a headset good in any way and you pay a big premium just for the name brand.

$100 razor headset? equal to something of about $40 from a good brand like say Plantronics for communication equipment.

Damn dno about surround... But in general, you will not find better headphones than the Sony XB-500's

You will not find better sound and bass, and you will not find more comfortable ones... seriously. But if surround is a must then yeah /: i dno

I hate gaming headsets. As stated above I feel they're over priced and are a fanboy thing. I use a pair of Bose QC15 headphones with the built in mic which work perfectly. Although the mod mic does look like a great idea since the mic for mine is on the cable it would be nice to have it closer to my face.

    Lets get real here.

If you want the most out of your $100.00 do not buy a headset. Buy quality headphones and a Zalman Clip on microphone, or even a desktop microphone.

I have used the combination of a pair of good cans and the Zalman clip on microphone for years. This setup will blow any Headset, 5.1 gimmick, gaming headset, out of the water.

Here are a few links to some headphones I highly recommend. Any audio guy will more than likely agree with me. If $80.00 is your budget here are some good buys.

Zalman Zm-Mic1 - Get it, its awesome.

Amazon.com: Zalman Zm-Mic1 High Sensitivity Headphone Microphone: Electronics

    Sennheiser 555's

Sony MDR-V6 - Awesome bass, and at the same time it has quite good sound quality.

Amazon.com: Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil: Electronics

Koss ProDJ1000 - This has a bit better sound stage than the Sony, tad less bump.

    Amazon.com: Koss ProDJ100 Headphones: Electronics

Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - These are simply killer headphones. Probably one of the best sound stages for the money. Not as much bass as you'd expect, but the sound quality you will get out of these will blow your mind.

Any of these cans are a good buy. If you can swing it get the AD700's.

These are my picks, look up reviews and you'll see they are all great headphones.

Amazon.com: Buying Choices: Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones

The honest fact is, headsets are a rip off. At least if you want the most for your dollar. I'm not saying the brands that make them are bad, I'm just saying generally they are overpriced.

Now you can't really say one brand is better than another because most top brands each put out quality headphones in many different price categories.

    - Let me know if you need any help. Feel free to PM me.

Except none of them have surround, which can definitely be useful in gaming. I'm not saying gaming headsets have incredible sound quality, but an AD700 with the Zalman clip on isn't always the answer. It's pretty annoying how anything not produced by Sennheiser or Audio Technica is instantly dismissed around here. Obviously there are gimmicky headsets, but to write surround sound off entirely seems absurd.
