I just bought a Razer Mantis control gaming mat as recommended by many friends & because my older mouse pad was small.
What I want to know is that other than larger size do gaming mats really improve your gaming?
Are they worth it ? And how is Razer Mantis if anyone of you has tried it?

Practice improves your gaming not a mat.

I really don't game much on my computer, but I have a gaming type mouse pad, and I like it, not because it improves my gaming, but because it is an excellent surface for the mouse to be on. It feels great, and the mouse works well on it.

But after certain practice....u feel your small slippery mouse pad is deteoriting your performance
-
I just use my desk, hasn't really prevented me from gaming so far...

Which mouse u are using then? ...Its a sin to use Expensive gaming mouse without mat/pad... it ruins your mouse base & affects tracking as levelling gets ruined.....
I used to do the same & ended up ruining two mice already.... This new Deathadder is expensive so i take care....
Another thing I read few mins ago... Gaming mat as gamers claim helps in improving tracking...your crosshair is exactly at the same position as you expect.
Plus, it always helps to have a large mat to allow free movements with Minimal friction. -
Now, if your desk with messy, dusty, had crumbs on it, it would be another story, but I don't let that happen. This is probably why I don't have any issues. -
Wow, but i am feeling the difference in my gaming already....
The friction is lower, the control is better...
I Fragged 7 in one round with AWP (counter-strike)...earlier I would go 4-5. -
I play F.E.A.R. with my Logitech V270 on my desk and it's fine..

I do think a good mouse mat can be a lot more pleasant to play on compared by using just your desk. I myself use a sheet of plastic taped onto my desk (those plastic covers you slide A4 paper in). It works like a charm: the tracking is excellent (maybe because of the laser of my mouse) and the mouse slides very wel.
I heard you can also use that paper you use for your oven (so the stuff you bake don't stick on your oven). So you don't have to spend a lot of money for a good mouse mat. -

Look at the size of the gaming mat!!! -
I have a copperhead and don't need a mat: it glides on pretty much every surface I use ^_^

i play lots of games ranging from rts to fps just with a 20c mouse pad and my mx518. it goes alright.

the mouse base gets severely scratched & mouse looks ugly....also the mats allow best gliding friction...they really improve the comfort & performance
Gaming Mats...Do we really need them?
