Hi guys. I have a m17x r3 on the way, and am interested in purchasing a high quality mouse for general use and some light gaming.

I kind of want a mouse that has lighting effects with the m17x, but I can live without it.

I'm not really into the RAT series, looks like too much hassle for me.

I have my eye on the mamba, but am just interested if razer plans on releasing a new elite level mouse to overtake the mamba.

Roccat has some mice with good lightning, but I don't know anything about their reliability or performance, anyone care to enlighten me?

Thanks guys, I am open to suggestions.

I'll vouch for the Mamba being awesome, if rather expensive. I haven't heard of any plans to replace the Mamba.

If you don't mind a wired mouse, check out the DeathAdder. Same shape as the Mamba, but about half the price.

i dont think they will anytime soon since its the "flagship" model but i guess you never know. The waiting game just sucks though since youll always be waiting for the new thing. the mamba is a very good mouse i really like it but i think i would rather at this point buy the g700 from logitech especially since they are on sale at the moment for $75 at logitech. of course just get the one you want they are both good mice although the razer mamba does have the lighting effect thing you might like. the only thing ill tell you about the mamba though is to use firmware revision 1.06 since every newer version ive tried after that is utter junk.

Thanks guys. Is the logitech g700 backlit? I've seen it before at best buy and stuff, and looks pretty well built. How's the build quality?

Build Quality should be pretty good. It is not LED lit however. If you want something good and flashy (and you got the money for it too), you can consider the Razer Mamba. The only big weakness for the G700 is that the battery life is not that great when you constantly run it at 1000 polling rate and a high dpi. However, if you run it with lesser settings, the G700 can still hold about 2-3 days with general use before a recharge.

However, I am getting one and running it with some backup AA Rechargables (Sanyo Eneloops) to constantly change and charge during intense gaming sessions. Otherwise, the Logitech works pretty well for the most part, with the only other concern is some units are insensitive to small movements on wireless mode when on a high dpi, but not all units has the problem. Logitech's warranty is pretty good, so if that problem occurs, you can just ask for a replacement.

The Mamba is essentially a wireless DeathAdder with side rubberized grips, a dedicated Li-Ion Polymer battery, and a charging cradle. Therefore, it seems to last longer per charge and it has a convenient cradle to plug in for the night to recharge. The G700 you have to plug in a USB Cable to charge via the mouse, or take out the AA Rechargeable battery and use an external third-party battery charger. however, the price tag of the Mamba is nearly twice as much as the G700 brand new.

I have both G700 & Mamba, after extensive use, feel that G700 is much better.I won't go into details regarding their reviews, there's tons on the web. Here's a pic of them side by side.
