My g400 (which is not a perfect fit for me) has come to the end of it's life.
It's not a perfect fit for me because I have a pure finger grip, the palm of my hand is not even close to the mice surface, all the movement comes from the pinky finger/thumb pushing it around. This means that I need a mouse which is either short or has everything within short reach, and it must have a very high sensitivity.
Here's a picture of my grip:
![]()
As you can see, i can only reach one side button without moving my thumb in an awkward way. Moreover, g400 has a button in front of the scrolling wheel...not even close to touch that one. On the right side my pinky constantly touches the table, so some kind of "pinky finger extension of doom" would help a lot.
If you ask:"Why did you get that mouse?"....well, it was on offer for 25$ and sensitivity is fine xP
If I could get a mouse with a nice fit and a few extra buttons it would be great.
I've checked a few reviews and the new Naga Hex got a lot of praise. The 6 buttons on the side would be ideal, I don't need more than that.
On the other hand I'm intrigued by the customization options of the Rat 7, it looks like i could easily tune that in order to fit my hand...ehm....fingers properly.
At the moment I'm playing fps most of the time, in the future I'll spend time on Guild Wars 2.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!

it looks like the Razer-type of mice would be more ideal for your claw grip.
sensitivity shouldn't even be a selling point. it's nothing but an irrelevant, flashy number used for marketing. any, at least decent, gaming mouse will have more than efficient enough DPi. -
I use a microsoft mouse for gaming. Mouses just take getting used to, I would suggest adjusting your grip because most mouses are designed with normal hands in mind.

To me it's 99% a matter of grip & comfort. With my grip style I always play on high sensitivity and only use small movements to turn around/aim/etc.
So basically the main problem is finding a mouse that fits nicely (or that can be customized such as the rat7), feels comfortable and allows me to reach all its available buttons.
I've not managed to find a huge amount of reviews for finger grip mice, and most of them were pretty cheap.
A lot of people are pushing me in direction of the Naga Hex or Razer in general, which is nice because it's much cheaper than the rat7 here in Australia xD -
Why don't you just try holding the mouse closer to the palm of your hand? I hold the mouse exactly the way you do, except with my index and middle fingers to the sides of the scroll wheel and the tip of my thumb resting between the two buttons. It looks like your hand is big enough to do it. My hands are relatively small.

It's a bit hard to explain in english, i'll try xD
The way I hold my mouse allows me to use my wrist as a pivot. It never moves left/right and always stays in the same spot. I move the mouse in every direction by moving hand and fingers. If I try to hold the mouse closer to the palm, what happens is that there won't be enough space between mouse and wrist to actually use it as a pivot. If i try to do it I'm not able to move the cursor up/down without moving the whole forearm, whereas with my standard grip I just need a small movement with my fingers to do it.
My hand is pretty big, so if I grab the g400 with a palm-grip I have 2 fingers sliding on the table or bent in an uncomfortable way. If I try to grip-claw it it gets more confortable but I move/aim in an awkward way. If I finger-grip it (yay!) it feels ok when i play, but there are some buttons that I cannot reach and I'd prefer a place to rest my pinky and ring finger on the mouse (no space on the g400).
If I had to explain that in my own language it would have been difficult....doing it in english felt like running act4 nightmare in diablo3 naked and with a cat sleeping on the keyboard xD -

But my two sense be get the one that you feel would be the right one haha

Yeah I know that grip looks a bit silly xP But it feels so comfortable for both hand and forearm! In order to rest my hand completely on the mouse I'd need something twice as wide as the g400!

quit being silly. u're not a goose. -
Check out the Logitech G9x. It's got a much shorter body, and has two interchangeable grips.

Have you checked out the razer orochi? I have the same or similar grip where i use only my fingers on a small\medium sized mouse and I plan on getting this mouse due to its size and portability.
Heres a link to it at amazon :

Looks like i'll give this one a try:
CoolerMaster CM Storm Spawn
Small (ish), not too different from the logitech g9x. The HUGE difference for me is the right side with ring-finger rest area and rubberized surface for the pinky.
I'd have preferred a few extra buttons, but i value comfort over everything else, and this is the only mouse that looks just perfect on its right side. -
That's the same reason why I'm still rocking two Logitech G3's. They have last for many years and I've already bought two sets of replacement feet ready since they were on sale.
I'm interested in what you'll find and consider as good enough -

I stumbled on this mouse today, Logitech G300.
I had not put much thought into it before, because in the pictures it looks as big as those G700 and others like it. Well, today I saw it live (but in a box).
I dug a photo someone has taken:

So, one local shop had special offer on the G300. 19€ with free postage, who could resist?
It is small, especially the thin form-factor. It's also very light, my old G3 is heavier. After a while it fits my hand well, at least for now I miss the side buttons though. As a default, left side buttons function as forward and back buttons (they are actually labeled as 4 and 5), rest of the keys do nothing.
Next thing to do is to start my gaming rig and install software for the mouse and then try out some games. So far I've just used my low-power surfboard to test the general feel of the mouse. -
I too am a big-handed pure fingergrip mouse user. My last mouse was a Roccat Kone [+], which I really liked but the scrollwheel broke down after a few months of use. A common problem unfortunately.
Currently I just use a tiny logitech anywhere mx which is very comfortable as well.
On my Roccat I would switch to 2400dpi for FPS which was fast and accurate.
Razer has a nice writeup on their website about the differences between styles.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't see there was a second page. -

Now that I'm done with my rant, what are you using now? I considered the Anywhere MX, but I'm worried the low dpi will bother me. I only play FPS really and barely move my mouse 2 inches in any direction. -
Give the CM Storm Spawn a try if you think you're a claw-gripper.
It's cheap. It's optical. It's not the most adjustable - in terms of DPI - mouse on this planet since the DPI steps are fixed, but I like it. -

Why not? Get a red backlight

CM Spawn is what I was going to suggest, I plan to get one myself perhaps once my MX518 kicks the bucket, but that may be another 10 years since they last forever.

Went with a Logitech G300. For the $30 it costs I'm pretty happy. It will take some getting used too but feels good in my hand. Not to far off from how I hold my G9x. If I get bored of it I'll upgrade the desktop mouse and move the G9x over to the lappy.
