Hey everyone, I'm currently using a Logitech Mini mouse for gaming. To be honest it's not that great. In games like Call of Duty, the movements are usually all or nothing. I can turn 180 with the flick of a wrist, but when it comes to having to move the pointer 10 pixels up, it usually doesn't move at all... What mouse would you recommend that can offer precision? And what mouse pad?

I love my Razer deathadder. Definetely a great choice for any right handers. It's also a great price too.
Mousepads, I'd definetely reccomend

Mice:
Razer Deathadder
Razer Mamba (Wireless)
Logitech G9/G9x
Logitech G5
Logitech G7 (Wireless)
Razer Orochi
Razer Imperator
Mouse Pads:
QCK Steelseries
Razer eXactmat (Thanks to Mastershroom for that one) -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
All you need is the Logitech G9x and the SteelSeries QcK mini to frag your enemies.
-
I'm rocking the Razer DeathAdder + eXactMat combo, and it's killer (quite literally). The Speed surface of the eXactMat really works great with the DeathAdder's optical sensor, with the highest perfect control speed of any gaming mouse out there, at just around 4 m/s. The Control side is great for extremely precise work, where you need to be able to discern pixel from pixel.

Link doesn't work, but Deathadder looks awesome.
How is the eXactMat compared to Goliathus Speed or Goliathus Control? Or even Sphex Desktop Skin? -
I use and like a lot the SteelSeries QcK Mini Mouse Pad (was $7 free shipping but not in stock atm), if you want something bigger SteelSeries QcK+ Mouse Pad or SteelSeries QcK Heavy Mouse Pad.
And mouse i still keep coming back to Logitech MX 518 and probably will stay with it if they keep making it. Another good choice, just not as comfortable for my grip is Razer Deathadder 3500. -
The Goliathus and Sphex are both soft mats, the eXactMat is hard anodized aluminum. Since it has two sides, it's like having both Goliathus surfaces in one pad; you simply flip it over to change surfaces. Also, if you use your laptop in bed or on a couch, it gives you a nice solid surface to mouse on, since it's a hard pad and maintains its own shape. The Sphex's surface isn't quite as textured as the eXactMat's Control side, but not quite as smooth as the Speed side.

go in a store and try the different mouse pads. Else it's difficult to find the best surface for you. I have a Goliathus Speed, because it wasn't too expensive, is huge and has a nice surface in my opinion, while also being very comfortable to use.
If you want a hard mouse pad then I hope you know that an aluminum mouse pad is cold at the beginning.
If you play often for a long time this shouldn't be a real issue, else search for a non aluminum mouse pad if you prefer a hard mouse pad.
The advantage of a flexible is that it's not as expensive, warmer and more comfortable to use, because it's not as hard.
All in all a personal matter. So go in a store and feel the different surfaces, else you can't buy the right one. -
The main problem with that is that stores rarely have mouse surfaces, especially the more expensive ones, open for testing. Also, the coldness of the eXactMat is somewhat compensated by the fact that it includes a nice memory foam wrist pad.

Currently using the 3500DPI Deathadder and free Razer Kabuto that came with it.
Awesome combo! -
I assume your free Kabuto was from Razer's random loot giveaway? I got the Carcharias headset.
I haven't really heard much about that mouse mat, how is the texture? -
AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
Razer randomly gives away stuff? I'm going to order the eXactmat first, and see how my Logitech Mini works with it. If it's good enough I may not upgrade to the Deathadder. I think a new mousepad will be the biggest improvement because my current one is a Sony mousepad that my mom got for free at a Telecom event meeting 7 years ago.
-
An older MX-518 will also work wonders. It's the same shape and design as the G5 and G7, just older, so you can probably find it cheap. I've used mine for years, but I just bought a G9 a few days ago. I love both.

As for pads, I use a soft-top Razer Goliathus. I really like the feel of a soft-top compared to a regular plastic pad. I used to have a FuncPad F-Series, which worked great as well. Plus, you can customize them with any picture/design/logo/etc. that you want.

And about mouses but it can't be Bluetooth because I don't have Bluetooth on my computer. How is the cord on the Deadadder? Does it interfere at all?
-
It was a one-time giveaway for Cyber Monday this year. The first 300 orders placed after midnight got a random item from Razer's catalog added to their order for free. In my case, I ordered an Orochi and Sphex for my girlfriend's Christmas gifts, and the Carcharias was my free loot.
The DeathAdder's cord is actually quite nice. It's wrapped in braided fibers, giving it a very low-friction texture that doesn't snag on desk corners or get tangled easily like traditional rubber-insulated cords. -

There's no wireless gaming mouse with a quality like Deathadder's? Just got a 17:13 kill:death ratio on MW2 with my touchpad =] sure beats my mouse.
-
There's the Mamba, which has wired and wireless modes, both with 1,000Hz/1ms response, and shares the same shape with the DeathAdder, with the addition of two buttons. Unfortunately, it's $130.
-
Stay with wired mouse, just can beat the price/performance for gaming. But if you really want to try out wireless, then check Razer Mamba or Logitech Performance Mouse MX.
-
I got the Qck Mini for 1 cent at gamestop... they are actually trying to get rid of the minis at GS and sell the other ones at full price still... but seriously? $0.01 I could not give up. One of the best buys I have gotten in a while haha
-

I think I'm to pick up the Deathadder, eXactmat, as well as the Qck Mini, since it's only 5 bucks on most websites. Thanks for the help all!

Another question: is there any mouse cheaper than the Deathadder? It looks a lot more expensive in my cart haha
-
There are 2 versions of the deathadder, a 1800dpi and 3500dpi (newest), but if you want something a little cheaper also check for Logitech MX518 should be a little cheaper.
-
AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
How much different is the 1800dpi vs 3500dpi?
-
In terms of performance? At most screen resolutions, you'll never notice the difference (unless you're running 2560x1600
). I do love the 3,500 version's braided cable, though, which the original 1,800 DPI model lacks.
-
I've used my 1800dpi MX518 for years and love it. Tried out a G9x (5200dpi I think), and noticed a small change, but nothing worth screaming about. Ended up buying a G9 (3200dpi), and it's great. I think I can feel a slight difference when doing small movements, but both are so close you will not feel like you have an inferior product with 1800dpi.

5200dpi?!?!?!
I've been using a G5 for years now and it absolutely rocks, had the old orange version which has only one side button and currently using the latest version with 2 side buttons which I highly recommend. The braided cable and small USB end are nice features too.

Nothing's as cheap as I'd like, hahaha oh well. I guess I'll buy them after I sell the textbooks I don't need. Goodbye biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, genetics, systems physiology, endocrinology, calculus, macroeconomics, and microeconomics textbook.
-
Where!!! i would totally get it in a heartbeat
-
ehh i wouldnt reccomend that new logitech...tried it out at a friends house (you know...the one that has the 7 series beamer and he's sixteen, aka rich as crap and gets whatever the hell he wants)...personally the old MX revo. was way better imo.
i would say no to the mamba simply due to the pricing and u don't really have a need for it. stay with the DA. 3500DPI is really nice as well. 3200 is my sweet spot. btw, dont think i hate the mamba, my fav. mouse ever, just not for u
-
The MX Revolution was better you say...
I would've thought the Performance was better... -
the DPI in MX surely suck....with only 800DPI you cant really expect much from it ... because it is made for multimedia and surfing ... i own one and i can tell the difference in terms of performance when gaming compare to my razer imperator
-
After 6 years of serving my MX518 started messing up... anyways - my 518 is out of order now - been replaced by a G5 refresh

Just picked up the Qck Mini, it should be here on Saturday or next Monday! I can't wait. I remember playing CoD yesterday when I was chasing someone on Quarry. He was running away from me up the steel pipe at the edge of the map, I was on the the corner of the map, I pulled out my ACR, aimed at him, but the sight was about 15pixels to the left of him. So I tried to make a slight adjustment and move to the right, but couldn't actually aim at his back until he was all the way at the top of the hill. I still killed him though.
-
I decided to try out the new Razer Imperator and the dual-sided eXact mat combo. Arrives friday from NCIX Canada. My MX518 began to shed its outer coating and i spilled something sticky on it so the buttons barely work now...
otherwise it was great.

I remember a few years ago I was pouring honey into my tea or something, and it spilled on my dad's keyboard... I know I'm dumb since you need to have pretty poor reaction/reflex to spill honey since it flows so slowly hahaha -
I have a niggle regarding the exactmat. I bought these the last time I asked what mat I should buy to replace the Dell mats (and I believe it was Mastershroom who was first in with the recommendations as well) and I've switched full-time to these (bar one PC)...
... But I feel that these will sag over time, and that unless you pull off the feet it may eventually impact on mousing performance - and if you pull off the feet, it's gonna go slip-sliding all over the desk.
Now other heavier users of the exactmat can I'm sure comment on this. But it's a concern I have. -
I have the exactmat, Most amazing mat that I have had, ever. But i cannot answer you because mine came with the the arm rest thingy, and it has a rubber mat that goes underneath the exactmat, So i guess you could just buy the armrest they sell as well, that would solve your prob.
Still, it doesn't feel to me like it would actually cave in with time without.
As for mouse, I use the G9 logitech, im in love with it. -
Ahhhh... I've grown to hate gel wristrests so I didn't order them with the rests. I didn't realise they went all the way under the mat.
-
I also have the eXactRest thing (which, btw, is memory foam, not gel), but before I got it I used my eXactMat bare for a month or two. It's solid aluminum several millimeters thick; I don't think you need to worry about sagging in the middle under the insignificant weight of your arm and a mouse.
Leave the feet on, and order the eXactRest if you want. Hell, if you're that concerned about it, you can cut off the actual memory foam wristpad portion of it and leave the rubber mat surface underneath your eXactMat. -
That's true. I'll do that, thanks. (Can't rep you yet apparently)
-
Im glad that i decided to get the wrist rest then. It seemed like a clever move at the time
It also seems that the general consensus among users here on notebookreview is that the eXactmat is actually a good investment which makes me all warm and fuzzy. I cant wait for mine to arrive.
I saw a thread on the Imperator the other day but would anyone mind sharing their personal experience once again regarding that mouse? i would greately appreciate it. I did my research before i bought it but nothing beats 2 cents of personal input. -

Razer Krait - yay or nay?
-
I say yay, although I'd spring for the Diamondback 3G or DeathAdder if you can afford them.
-
What he said ^ the krait is more of a simplistic diamondback

I really disliked it - I bought as a replacement for my first G5 but it was far too light and uncomfortable, it felt I was moving a completely hollow pebble shape with no weight or heft to it. I promptly it returned after a few days. In my opinion, if you're right-handed then why compromise with a universal fit mouse? -
AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
Just ordered the Deathadder from Amazon. Still waiting on the Qck Mini to come.
-
I'm a pretty big fan of razer, their stuff rules.
-
not all...i do appreciate their mouses but the heasets and keyboard are(no offence
) total crap...
